“Throughout your life you acquired a set of values — beliefs and ideas that are important to you.
For example you may believe that one should always be honest or that one must always be a
loyal friend.
You live your life according to this set of values. In order to have a happy, successful and
fulfilling life, you must act upon your values, both in your personal life and at work. Taking your
values into account when you choose a career could be the most important factor that
determines whether you will or won't be satisfied with that aspect of your life.
Consider each value carefully and provide a rating between 1 and 5, where 1 means
“NOT very important” and 5 means “VERY important to me”
1. Identify five values that you rate the highest or the most important to you.
Five values that I rated the highest and are the most important to me are money, education,
family, helping others, and community impact.
2. How will your values influence the type of work you will choose?
My values will impact me being a doctor. With money, you make a lot of it. With education, there
is a lot of years of studying including that you need to go to university, medical school, and
residency. With family, doctors do get a lot of time off work which means I will get to spend time
with my family a lot. With helping others, you help treat patients and you may even save lives.
Finally, with community impact, doctors make the world a better place by not only helping others
but finding cures and increasing medical technology which can help make it easier to help
people.
