Excavation work

The contractor shall be deemed to have made

himself fully acquainted with the full nature &
30 4.1 complexity of the work, the location and
character of the site and means of access to the
site.

The rates and work descriptions have to

include all activities and all costs necessary to
complete the work. The erecting, use and
dismantling of necessary working platforms,
scaffolding and related structures have to be
included in the rates. Construction of
cofferdams, guide bunds, sheet piles etc. if
required for diversion of the river in order to
get the working space or to control seepage
31 4.1 during excavation shall also be included in the
rates. The relevant drawings are an integral
part of these tender documents. The contractor
has to study all drawings in detail. By
submitting the tender, the contractor is
declaring that he has understood the drawings
and all the works involved and is prepared to
complete all construction work in a competent
manner. Only the highest degree of accuracy
and quality will be accepted.
The Contractor confirms also to be fully aware
of the soil condition. He agrees not to ask for
additional payments due to changed soil
conditions. The word "soil" in this context
refers to all types of soil, earth, rock, stone,
sand, boulders, gneiss, clay, gravels, mica
schist and so on. In other words, the rate
quoted for the soil excavation shall apply for
all the excavation materials; soil, earth, rock -
hard and/or soft, requiring or not requiring
blasting. Irrespective of the type of excavation
material, the contractor shall be paid at the
32 4.3 same rate - the rate quoted by the contractor
for 'soil' excavation. Therefore, while
submitting the rates, the contractor has to
estimate the proportion of various materials
(soil, ordinary rock, and hard rock) in the
excavation depending on the site condition and
quote accordingly. The fact that some of the
excavation works will be at the riverside, in
the river and below the water level will also
not justify any increase in the costs. It is
important that the contractor do careful study
of the site condition prior to submitting the
tender.

The excavation shall be paid as Solid Volume.

Solid volume is the volume of excavation
calculated directly from the foundation
dimensions of the structure without
allowance for bulking, shrinkage, wastage,
working space, slope cutting etc. However,
the contractor has to be aware of the fact that
4.7
the soil cannot be dug vertically and that
additional excavations would be required for
getting the working space around the
foundations, slope cutting etc. and the
contractor has to account for these additional
quantities while setting rates for the excavation
works.
Clearing and grubbing of site including
uprooting all vegetation, grass, bush shrubs,
saplings and trees of girth of all sizes including
4.7.1 removing stumps of tress cut earlier and m2 81.74
disposal of unserviceable materials and
stacking of serviceable materials as directed by
engineer with all leads and lifts etc. complete.

Excavation in ordinary/hard rock for

foundations of abutment and wing walls. Here
excavation means rock cutting up to the level
shown in the drawing. Controlled blasting
would be permitted. The volume of rock/soil
excavation is calculated as solid volume as
per drawings but the contractor has to
consider the fact that it may not be possible
33 4.7.2 m³ 486.02
to excavate the foundation vertically for
deeper foundations and should therefore
keep provisions for slope cutting, working
space etc. in the rates including dewatering
by bailing out or pumping out water. The
loading, offloading and transportation has to
be included in the rate. The quantity is only for
both banks.

Backfilling around and behind the foundations,

abutments and wing walls. Handling, loading,
offloading, transportation, watering and all
necessary works shall be included in the rate.
The back filling shall be done as per the
instruction of site engineer and in layers not
34 4.1 m³ 371.41
more than 300mm thick and compacted
well with earth rammer or compactor. The
Client's site engineer will strictly supervise
this to make sure that full compaction is
achieved. The quantity of backfilling is only
up to the end of wing walls
Providing and laying coarse gravel (filter
layer) behind the Abutments and wing walls
as per drawing. Thickness d=50 cm for both
abutments and wing walls. The filter material
35 4.1 m³ 38.34
to be used have to be approved by the client.
Handling, loading, offloading, transportation
and all necessary work shall be included in the
rate.

Providing and laying of earth embankment on

right approach road until the abutment. The
quantity mentioned in BoQ may vary
36 4.1 depending on the site requirement during the m³ 700.00
time of construction. Handling, loading,
offloading, transportation and all necessary
work shall be included in the rate.

works: Works
Rate Amount

The reinforced concrete works shall be

carried out strictly as per the stipulations in
the Technical Specification. The reinforced
concrete works may be under or above the
water level. The bidders have to study the
site condition and the design drawings
carefully and if necessary account for the
dewatering works using water pumps or
any other means including providing of
temporary protection works such as coffer
37 5.4
dam, sheet pile etc. to divert the river
and/or control seepage for laying the
concrete works under water. It is
understood that the bidders' price for the
concrete works include, besides others,
possible expenses for river diversion,
cofferdam/sheet pile/guide bunds,
dewatering works etc. The rates shall
include all the efforts required to fulfill the
task.

Abutments

Providing & Laying of Lean Concrete

foundation slab & wing wall and 55 mm
thick as capping for wing wall as shown
in the drawing . The side of the lean
38 5.4 m³ 16.04
concrete can be inclined up to 15 degrees
and therefore no formwork is necessary.
The rate has to include all works and
materials to fulfill the task including curing
of the concrete.
Providing & laying of Reinforced Cement
Concrete M25, for foundation slab of the
abutments as per drawing and
specification. All works and materials to
39 5.4 m³ 64.80
complete the task including curing of the
concrete has to be included in the rate.
Formwork and reinforcement will be paid
separately.

Providing & laying of Reinforced Cement

Concrete M25 for the abutment wall
(Stem) as per drawing and specification.

concrete have to be included in the rate.
Formwork and reinforcement will be paid
separately.

Proving and Fixing Formwork including

all temporary or permanent forms required
for forming the concrete of the shape,
dimensions and surface finish as shown in
the drawings. The rate shall include all
props, staging, centering, scaffolding and
temporary construction required for their
41 5.14
support to provide the structure true to
shape as shown on the drawing and
removal of the formwork after the time
specified in the specifications or as
directed by the Engineer/Client. The
formwork shall affect a smooth and even
finish on the concrete surface.

Providing and fixing vertical formwork for

42 5.14 the foundation slab of the abutments as m² 45.60
shown in the drawing.

Providing and fixing vertical formwork for

drawings, including cutting, bending,
hooking by machine/manual, tying in
position including GI binding wire,
spacers, laps, chairs, cover blocks, placing
into formwork and fixation, all complete.
44 5.15 Reference will be made to the
reinforcement list for calculating the
weight of the reinforcement for which the
contractor is eligible for payment. The
contractor will not be paid for any wastage.
The contractor has to consider and include
wastage into his pricing of the unit rates.

Bend-up bars with hooks and any kind of

bends, Diameter 10 - 32 mm. All efforts
45 5.15 and costs to be included to fulfil the task. kg 10,433.10
