ADDENDUM ADDENDUM
Distillate Upgrade HDS Project TO Revision: B - IFA Date: 4/23/20
This Addendum is issued in addition to the Phillips 66 (P66) Standards for the above Refining Engineering
Practice (REP) and should be treated as the prevailing document where topics are in conflict. The original
REP is attached and exceptions, additions, clarifications, revisions, etc. are noted below. Changes in
accordance with the current revision are reflected in bold text.
1 GENERAL:
1.1 Per Lake Charles site preference, buttweld and flanged components shall be used at
NPS 2 in lieu of socket weld components.
1.2 When used in Hydrogen service (partial pressure of Hydrogen 50 psia or greater),
PWHT is required when the design temperature is above 450°F.
1.3 Components larger than NPS 24 shall not be used without engineering approval.
2 VALVES:
2.1 Only the following valves are approved for use on the project:
GATE VALVES

15 NOTES:
Use swages where small end is NPS 1½ and smaller, use weld reducer where small end
is NPS 2 and larger.
Any unused pressure tap shall be plugged (per ASME B16.11) and socket welded.
The branch size and branch schedule are listed for the Weldolets. The run size and run
schedule must also be listed in the purchase order but could not be included in the piping
class due to the large number of potential combinations.
15.4 Teflon coated bolts should be used up to 625°F if flanges are uninsulated.
REVISION HISTORY
Rev. A dtd 2/4/20 – Pipe spec addendum created for project use. Issued for Approval.
Rev. B dtd 4/23/20 – Revised notes 2.1, 5.1, 5.2, 9.2 and 10.2. Added note 1.2. Deleted note 10.1.
Issued for Approval.

Revision 3.2
DESIGN NOTES:
Operation up to 800F is allowed with Owners Engineer Approval. Consideration for relevant damage mechanisms is required
and may limit the design temperature (ex. Hydrogen service, caustic service, etc.).
Special considerations are required for operation in the creep regime (ex. discontinuities around supports). The creep regime is
defined per material specification by the Time-Dependent Properties notes (T1 thru T10) in ASME Section II Part D Table 1A.
The Minimum Design Metal Temperature of this pipe class is based on the schedules listed within, see REP 5-1-1 Paragraph 4.2
for Minimum Design Metal Temperature requirements.
Seal Welding: REP 5-5-3
Stress Relief: REP 5-5-1
Design & Selection: REP 5-1-1, REP 5-1-2 & REP 5-2-1
Fabrication: REP 5-5-1
Erection: REP 5-5-3
Gaskets: REP 5-2-2
Flange Finish Shall Be 125 - 250 AARH.
See REP 5-2-1 For Restricted Piping Material Requirements.
Special A Oily Water Sewers, High Solids Sewers, and UG Pump Out require Protective Coatings, see REP 10-3-3

4 - 48 3 - 46 if B/H is > 50% Reducing Tee C03
Notes (AAAA1)
106 Use against control valves and other Class 300 flanged equipment nozzles as required per design drawings.
B02 Bolt lengths shall be per applicable flange and/or blind specification, i.e., ASME B16.5 / B16.47.
B06 For uninsulated flanges, the bolt temperature may be taken as 80% of the fluid temperature or pipe class design
temperature. With Owner's Engineer Approval, a lower bolt temperature may be used if determined by test or heat
transfer calculations.
C02 Use threadolets for unvalved vents and drains.
C03 Alternative Branch Connection Designs per Table 2 of Practice 5-5-1 may also be used with the Owner's Engineer
Approval.

Revision 3.2
F03 Use swages where small end is NPS 2 and smaller, use weld reducer where small end is NPS 3 and larger.
F05 Use for unvalved vents and drains for hydrostatic test. Plug must be dry threaded and seal welded after hydrostatic test.
F13 Only use NPS 2 unions for Nitrogen.
F41 Any unused pressure tap shall be sealed by socket welding a weldable quality bar stock (Not Free Machining Grade) that
matches the chemistry of the orifice flange. The bar stock shall extend beyond the orifice flange OD by 1.5 to 2 inches.
F42 Long Weld Neck flange used for Temperature Connections only
F66 The Branch size and fitting class are listed for the sockolets and threadolets. The Run size (not shown in description)
must be specified when purchasing to match existing pipe. No run schedule is required for sockolets or threadolets.
FP66 On 10/1/16 all 150# and 300# A105 flanges were required to be provided in the normalized condition. Note that flanges
installed prior to this date may not be normalized even though their compcodes are the same.
P13 A smaller pipe schedule is available which meets the design requirements and may be used with Owner's Engineer
approval, see Practice 5-2-3, para. 9.3. Instead, a standard, more readily available schedule is listed here.
P14 Plain End Nipples between a pipe or vessel and the first block valve shall be at least schedule 160 thickness.
P18 When calculating the pipe wall thickness, the corresponding calculated pipe MDMT should be less than or equal to the
MDMT of this class. When this is not attainable, refer to Practice 5-1-1 Paragraph 4.2 for MDMT requirements.
P31 Usage of NPS 2 buttweld fittings, pipe, and flanges requires Owner's Engineer Approval.
V01 Use only against flanged nozzles, removable spools & other flanged connections
V05 Use only where indicated on drawings.
V06 Use gate valves for sizes NPS 6 and larger. Globe valves may be used for sizes NPS 6 and larger with Owner's
Engineer Approval.
V08 Use against Class 300 flanged nozzles, removable spools and other connections
V107 For Los Angeles Refinery ONLY, Bellows Seal Gate and Globe valves are required by local regulations to be used in
light hydrocarbon and certain hazardous services <= NPS 14. Consult the LAR Environmental Department and LAR
Specification SP-140-1.
V138 Maximum temperature for soft seated valves is 450F
V14 Use in lieu of gate valves for vents and drains on liquid butane service.
V16 Wafer check valves shall not be used downstream of reciprocating compressor and pump. See Practice 5-3-1 for
additional limitations of wafer valves.
V17 Substitution of top entry valves by other types shall require Owner's Engineer approval.
V18 Use for sample connection only.
V25 Use for vents, drains and instrument connections where insulation thickness prohibits the use of extended body valves.
Use also for orifice flange connections.
V32 Valve may be used in lieu of line class specified Socketweld / Female Pipe Thread, or Male Socketweld / Female Pipe
Thread valves only for vents, drains or instrument connections.
V42 Valve may be used in lieu of gate valves only for vents, drains or instrument connections with approval of Owner's
Engineer.
V43 Cast steel material may be used in lieu of forged steel material for valve body.
V44 Refer to Practice 5-3-1 for additional limitations of wafer and wafer-lug valves.
V46 If used for dead end service, assure butterfly valve has full pressure class rating in both directions of isolation.
V53 A gear operator may be required based on operating conditions. Consult the manufacturer for operating torque
requirements.
V57 Ferndale Refinery prefers the usage of swing check valves. Usage of dual disc check valves at Ferndale Refinery
requires Owner's Engineer Approval.
V58 Alliance Refinery prefers the usage of dual disc check valves. Usage of swing check valves at Alliance Refinery requires
Owner's Engineer Approval.
V69 An integrally reinforced extended body male butt weld is allowed with Owner's Engineer Approval.
V70 An integrally reinforced extended male design (Lip or Butt Weld) must be fully welded out to the machined bevel per
manufacturer's installation guidelines.
V71 Integrally reinforced extended male lip designs and standard male lip designs are not allowed in crevice corrosion or
stress corrosion cracking services.
