Topic:Statistics, Subject: Mathematics

Driving question: Choose any 10 People around you a

(family/relatives/friends) and ask
them (survey)- how much water they drink in a day.
Make a frequency distribution table as shown here. Find all the
averages along with the range of the amount (in litre) people drinking
water per day.

Frequency Distribution Table of how much water 10
people drink in a day.
Drinking
water per 2 3 4 5 6
day in litre 1
s
Frequency
(no. of
people)
2 3 1 1 1 2
Mean of the grouped data

Mean= (1*2)+(2*3)+(3*1)+(4*1)+(5*1)+(6*2)
2+3+1+1+1+2
= 2+6+3+4+5+12
10
= 32/10
Mean = 3.2
Formula to find the Median of the grouped data
position of the
median: n+1/2
Median: Step 1: 10+1/2 = 11/2 = 5.5th place
Step 2: 5.5 is between 5 and 6
Step 3: Addition done upto the 3rd box
Gives us 1+2+3=6. Therefore 5 and 6 lies in the
2nd box and 3rd box.
Median= 5th+6th/2 = 2+3/2
= 2.5
Another way to find the
median of grouped data

1,1,2,2,2,3,4,5,6,6 = 2+3/2 = 5/2= 2.5

The mode of grouped data

The mode is 2 because it has the highest

corresponding frequency which is 3.
The range from
grouped data

Formula: Largest value -

smallest value
Range: 6 - 1 = 5
