4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory Activity
Let the students share their outputs on their assigned task.
5 minutes
4.2 Activity
A video clip on the sky lantern rising in the air is being presented to the class. In the video presentaton, what
10 minutes is placed inside the sky lantern?

4.3 Analysis
What is done before releasing the sky lantern? What happens to the sky lantern after releasing it? Explain.
5 minutes
4.4 Abstraction
The sky lanterns we use in celebrating New Year, Christmas, weddings, and other important occasions
operate on the concept of volume-temperature relationship. Have you tried releasing a sky lantern? It is like
a mini-hot air balloon; as the temperature increases, the sky lantern obtains its full volume and rises in the
atmosphere. It rises and rises as the temperature increases because the density of gases decreases as
gases expand due to the increase in temperature. This explains that the increase in volume and decrease in

density cause the sky lantern to float in the air!

4.5 Application What will happen to the sky lantern if the burning candle inside it is extinguished? Why?
10 minutes What will happen to the sky lantern if there is a hole or the lantern is torn? Why?
4.6 Assessment
1. What happens to the temperature of the balloon when the candle is
lighted?
2. What happens to the air molecules inside?
Tests 3. What happens to the density of gases inside?
15 minutes 4. What can you say about the density of the air inside the sky lantern and
outside of it?
5. What can you say about the rising of the sky lantern?

4.7 Assignment
Enhancing / improving the What is the mathematical equation that will describe the relationship between
3 minutes day’s lesson temperature and volume at constant pressure?

4.8 Concluding Activity

Let the students share what they learn in the day's lesson.
