NARRATIVE REPORT:ORIENTATION TO PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID
October 31, 2020

The field of school safety and emergency management has evolved significantly
because of this Pandemic. Tragically, this worldwide dilemma have taught us many lessons.
We also know that other types of emergencies can impact schools, including medical
emergencies, transportation accidents, sports injuries, peer victimization, public health
emergencies, and the sudden death of a member of the school community. We now
recognize the need for school emergency management plans that are up-to-date and take
this approach with clear communication channels and procedures that effectively address
the psychological well being of the parents, students and teachers. We have also learned
that preparing school administrators, teachers, and stakeholders before a critical event is
crucial for effective response, and that having intervention pertaining to psychosocial needs
of students, parents and staff is essential to a safe school environment and the resumption
of learning. Hence last October 31, 2020 Mactan National High School gave an Orientation
to Psychological First Aid to address the problems that we are facing during this trying times.
