PERFORMANCE TASK
5th Grade
(Adding and Subtracting Decimals)
This performance task is to be used as a culminating activity at the end of the unit on the
standard/concept. Students should have been exposed to, and hopefully mastered, the standard being
addressed in this task. The performance task is multi-layered to check for depth of understanding.

STANDARD: 5.NBT.3 – I can read, write, and compare decimals to the thousandths.
5.NBT.4 – I can use place value understanding to round decimals to any place.
5.NBT.7 – I can add and subtract decimals to thousandths.
TIME: 1 class period
SUMMARY/ This performance task addresses the skills of addition and subtraction of decimals. Also
OVERVIEW: included are estimation, ordering, and comparing decimals; real world operations, and
problem solving. It is based on a realistic scenario of friends going to an amusement park.
