Topic: Classification of Animal Kingdom

Aims By this class student will be able to learn about the classification of
&Objective vertebrate , invertebrates and the necessity of classification.

Warm up Exchange greetings.

New Characteristics of vertebrata.


lesson 1.Class-Amphibia
*Skin without scale, thin, soft, moist and with many glands.
*Cold blooded,lay egg in water,a tadpole hatches from fertilized egg.
e.g. frog ,toad.

2.Class-Reptilia
*Skin dry with scale,move by crawling,
*Each of the four legs contains five toes (claws), absent in snakes and
some lizards. e.g. Wall lizard, Crocodile, Snake.

3. Class-Aves

*Body is covered with feather,two wings,two legs and one beak.


*The presence of air sacs with lung helps in flight.
*All birds are warm blooded, bones are light,strong,delicate and laced
with air cavities.e.g. Crow, Duck,Magpie

4.Class- Mammalia

*Body covered with hair, female mammal suckle their young on milk
from mammary gland.
*Warm blooded,four chambered heart,teeth heterodont (varying in
structure and function)
*All the mammal give birth to child.e.g. Man, Camel, Royel Bengal
Tiger. Except Platypus.

***Necessity of classification.
The unit of classification is called taxon.
1.Heps to classify the vast animal world.
2.We can gather knowledge about different plants and animal.
3.Saves labour ,money and time
4.Interrelationship between different animals can be determined.
5.We can determine the systematic position of the organisms
according to evolutionary trend.
6.Organisms can be arranged into different taxa by following definite
rule.
7.This also allow us to trace the affinity of one group of organisms to
other.
8.It is useful to determine the collective and systematic knowledge
and organisms.

***Creative questions from text book will be discussed.

b)Which are the characteristics of amphibia/reptilia/aves/mammalia?
