5. Ready naba ang lahat na makinig? Alright! So sitback and let’s together learn Science. DEBUT

6. Slide 2: So for today’s agenda we have the topic Organic Compound. PAY ATTENTION

7. Slide 3: And as students you are expected to achieve the following learning objectives at the end
of the discussion (Read from slide). SONG 1

8. But before we proceed to our discussion, bibigyan ko muna kayo ng isang pangmalakasang Trivia
na related sa lesson natin for today.GUN

9. Slide 4 : Did you know that Penguinone is an organic compound that was named after a penguin
because it resembles a penguin figure. Amazing right? DEBUT

10. Slide 5 : But wait, there’s more. Did you also know that the ancient Egyptians used organic
compound to dye their cloths? MapapaWow kana lang talaga diba. Sana all! CLAP

1
11. Slide 6 :Ayan…so we shall now start our discussion on Organic Compound. So first and
foremost, let’s discuss what is organic compound. Any of a large class of chemical compounds in
which one or more atoms of carbon are covalently linked to atoms of other elements, most
commonly hydrogen, oxygen, or nitrogen that is found in the cell of living organisms. Yes, that’s
correct I organic compound can usually be seen in the cell of living organism. So in short, ang
ating mga katawang lupa ay nagtataglay ng Organic compound. Also let us remember that
organic compound contain carbon and usually bonded to hydrogen.

12. Slide 7 : But take note. PAY ATTENTION. Not all carbon compounds are Organic. We also
have its opposite which is the inorganic compound just like carbonate.

13. Slide 8 :So what is inorganic compound? Compounds that are made up of two or more elements
other than carbon, as well as certain carbon containing compound that lack carbon-carbon bonds
such as cyanides and carbonates. Ang mga examples nito ay salt, oxygen and water. SONG2

14. Slide 9: So let us look at the illustration on screen to see the difference between the two. Discuss
from the screen. Ayan so I hope malinaw na sa inyo ang pinagkaiba ng dalawang carbon
compound. CLAP

15. Slide 10: Now let us proceed to the Properties of organic compounds. PAY ATTENTION.

16. Slide 11- The first in the list under quantitative properties is the melting point where solid
change into liquid state. DEBUT

17. Slide 12 – Next is the boiling point where the temperature at which the vapor pressure is equal to
the external pressure applied in the liquid. PAY ATTENTION

18. Slide 13 – And last is the index of refraction, the measure of a bending of ray of life when
passing to one medium to another just like what is happening when you put a pencil in a glass of
water. Alright! there you have it guys, quantitative properties of organic compound. I think all of
these terms are very familiar to all of us. SONG1

19. Okay! Once again to all our grade 9 viewers and listener, do not forget to comment down your
name, grade and section sa ating Fb live para sa inyong additional points. Sarap diba! LAUGH

20. Slide 14 – Now let me run down to you the Qualitative properties of organic compounds

Ayan..Ofcourse alam na alam naman na natin ang mga terms na yan diba.i repeat, the qualitative
properties of organic compound are Odor,Viscosity, Volatility and Flammability. SONG1

21. Ayos paba ang lahat? Fighting tayo mga anak ah, kahit di ka niya pinaglaban.Awww..It really
hurts..Saklap naman nun guys..GUN

2
22. Slide 15 – Okay stay focus lang mga anak!!So at this moment we shall move on to the Common
Organic compounds.

23. Slides 16 – The are known to be hydrocarbons. PAY ATTENTION. So hydrocarbon are organic
chemical compounds that consist entirely of carbon and hydrogen, I reiterate once again-
entirely of carbon and hydrogen and they are grouped as alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes. SONG2

24. Slides 17 – Alright! So the first group of hydrocarbon is Alkanes or saturated hydrocarbon. PAY
ATTENTION.

These are large and structurally simple class of hydrocarbons includes those substances in which
all the carbon-carbon bonds are single bonds. The simplest alkanes are methane (CH4), ethane
(C2H6), and propane (C3H8).So from the definition itself we can identify that Alkanes are single
carbon – carbon bonds. Oo single po si Alkanes .DEBUT

25. Slide 17 - The alkanes are also called paraffins which are important raw materials of the chemical
industry and the principal constituent of gasoline and lubricating oils. So in short ,Alkanes are
used as fuel and oil. Perhaps naiimagine niyo na ngayon kung ano pa ang mga products na
ginagamitan ng alkanes. Most especially to some of you who owns a car , a motorcycle and the
like. SONG1

26. Slide 18 – Here are some examples of Alkanes together with their molecular and structural
formula. We have the methane, ethane, propane and Butane. PAY ATTENTION.

Kaya pa guys? kakayanin diba para sa kanya..ayyy should I say para sa grades pala! LAUGH. So
if my value of n is 1 in Carbon , the value for my hydrogen then is 4.Why because 2(1) = 2 + 2
that would give you a value of 4 by following the general formula of alkanes. Which would
clearly represent the molecular formula of methane. Mam bat may Math po eh Science po
tayo?,Exactly guys because Math is a science of pattern. They are closely related. Pay attention

And ofcourse in constructing your structural formula do not forget that Alkanes has single
carbon-carbon bonds. Just count the number of carbon and hydrogen and link them to each
other. .DEBUT

27. Slide 19 – So let see where in everyday life can we use Alkane.
28. Slide 20 - Methane can be used in balloon, ceramic tile , dryer and gas stove.
29. Slide 21 - Ethane can be used in Anti freezing product.
30. Slide 22 – Propane can be used in machine industry, Car engine and heater.
31. Slide 23 – And Butane can be used in lighter and fuel for portable stove kaya nga tayo nakakapag
Samgy mga anak. A big thanks to butane. LAUGH
32. Ganyan kalaki ang naitutulong ng Alkanes sa ating everyday life. Isn’t it amazing guys. CLAP
33. Slide 24 - Alright let us now move on to the second group which the Alkenes or unsaturated
carbon. PAY ATTENTION. There is a double bond between two carbon atoms. Alkenes have
the general formula CnH2n, where n is the number of carbon atoms in the molecule. There is no

3
alkene with only one carbon atom. It is because alkenes contain less than the maximum possible
number of hydrogen atoms per carbon atom, they are said to be unsaturated. Sabi nga sa
definition “ there is double bond between two carbons”.So if there is only one carbon where can
we link the double bond with other carbon diba? SONG2

34. Slide 25 – So here are the examples of Alkanes with molecular and structural formula. Song1

So if I have 2 as my value of n for Carbon therefore my value for Hydrogen is 4 because 2 times
2 is 4. Again by following the general formula of Alkenes which is CnH2n. So what are the uses
of Alkenes naman?

35. Slide 26 – Okay so Alkenes find many diverse applications in industry. They are used as starting
materials in the syntheses of alcohols, plastics, laquers, detergents, and fuels. Some alkenes have
good scent that are used in giving aroma in candles and cleaning products. Also, it is being
utilized in some anesthetic materials used in hospitals. Just wow na lang talaga!!What more can
we ask for kay Mr. Science diba nasa kanya na ang lahat.. SONG1

36. Slide 27 – And we are down to the last group guys which is Alkynes. Alkynes contain only one
triple bond between two adjacent carbon atoms. They are commonly called acetylenes which are
commonly used as fuel in an oxyacetylene welding torch. PAY ATTENTION.

37. Slide 28 - Ethyne (acetylenes) is also produced when calcium carbide, (CaC2), reacts with water
in the air, which has the ability to hasten the ripening of fruits. It used in some countries for
artificially ripening fruit. When calcium carbide comes in contact with moisture, it
produces acetylene gas, which is similar in its effects to the natural ripening agent,
ethylene. Acetylene accelerates the ripening process. They have the general formula
CnH2n-2, where n is the number of carbon atoms in the molecule.

38. Slide 29 – So here are some examples of Alkynes. DEBUT

4
So if my value of n is 2 for Carbon following the general formula my value for Hydrogen will be
2 times 2 which is 4 minus 2. The resulting value will be 2. Same holds true with Propyne and
Butyne.

39. Slide 30 – So what are the used of Alkynes. Saan natin ito usually makikita? Alkynes are usually
used in welding torch. Yan ang nagsisilbing dahilan sa pagkakaroon natin ng magagarang
sasakyan, matibay ng house furniture and appliances at marami pang iba. DEBUT

40. There you have it guys the three groups of hydrocarbons (Alkanes with single bond, Alkenes with
double bonds and Alkynes with triple bonds) all of which play their own role in making human
life comfortable and easy. But ofcourse let us not forget the proper usage and disposal of each
product if it can harm a human being or the nature itself. Remember that it is the greatest of all
mistake to do nothing because you can only do-little things most especially with the nature.
CLAP

41. Slides 31 – So going back to our discussion let me add more info about organic compound which
is the alcohol that is used as antiseptic or disinfectant, cleaning agents, components of liquors,
and a few are used as fuel for portable stoves or other types of burners. We have several types of
alcohol ethyl, methyl and isopropyl depending on their uses. As of today alcohol is very much in
demand to protect us from Corona Virus. So do not forget to sanitize guys once your are outside
or even at home. Song1

41. Slides 32 – And Carbonyl compound that have common uses like acetone and formalin. Acetone
is used as cleaning agent like a nail polish remover, and formaldehyde is used in preserving
organic materials like an animal specimen and our decease loved ones. Song2

42. Slides 33 – Alright at this juncture we shall now check and discuss each activity on your
Learning Activity Sheet. PAY ATTENTION

43. Slide 34 – 39 – Read

44. Slide 40 – Ayan so there you have it guys , ang bilis talaga ng oras no, that ends our discussion
about Organic Compound. I hope you were able to grasp something for today. Wag din sana
nating kalimutan iaccomplish ang binigay na Performance Task at Summative test ng inyong mga
Science guru para makumpleto lahat ng inyong requirements.I would like to take this opportunity
to thank our mentors Mam salvatierra and Mam Merlina for guiding us,to our technical assistants
Mam Botio and Mam Itum and to all Scheince Department for your support. Once again, this has
been Mam Jonah saying that nothing in life is to be feared it is only to be understood. Goodbye
and good day everyone.
