What are we trying to do?
Post2Event
● Not everyone is aware of the product and will often have a post instead of an
event
● We want to identify these kinds of posts and ask creators if they would like to
create an event
Your work will lead the efforts of building a classifier to support the Post → Event
trigger

What is an event?
Time
A specific starting time in the future is required for creating a Facebook event.
● From the post text and images, we must be able to infer that the post creator knows the specific time of the
event, so that he is able to create a Facebook event out of the post.
○ Some examples
■ “Hey, I'll be arranging a party this summer.” - the post creator does NOT know the specific time yet.
■ “Hey, I'll be arranging a party this summer on Jul. 1st.” - the post creator knows the specific time.
■ “Hi, come to the party next week!” - We can infer that the post creator probably knows the time of
the event, but for this workflow it is too ambigous
■ “Hi, the party is coming soon. Stay tuned.” - We can infer that the post creator does NOT know the
specific time yet.
● The time for an event can be can be described in either the post text or the post images (do look into the text in
the images!).
● The time for the event must be a future time in comparison to the post date. Past events are not acceptable.
What is an event?
Location
Location
● An IRL event has a physical location where people can gather in the real world
● An online event has a link where people can gather or stream from (Zoom, Facebook Live, Youtube Stream, etc)
● The location for an event can be described in either the post text or the post images.
● A location can be inferred from the post text and/or the page name.
○ Example: A restaurant can create a post that says “Looking forward to seeing you at our food festival this
Saturday!” It can then be inferred that the location of the event is at the restaurant.
What is an event?
Intent
An acceptable event is one that is likely to be shared by a post creator with the intent of inviting more participants.
● The intent of the post creator does not need to be explicitly stated within the post text.
● The language used in an acceptable post is meant to invite others to attend.
● Common phrases that are indicative of a post creator's intent:
○ “Come check out”, “can't wait to see you at”, “welcome”, “please join”, etc
● Merely describing past events are not events we consider for this task, since there is no intent for inviting people.
● School classes and examinations are not events we consider for this task because it is unlikely that a post
creator would have the intent of inviting people to classes and examinations, which are mandatory routines.
● A fitness class is usually an event we consider for this task, since the post creator is likely to want to invite people
to join the class.
● The activity of an event does not need to be explicitly stated in the description. This information can also be
inferred through the event title or event cover photo.
● The main intent of the event post does not need to be the activity itself. If an event post is heavily promoting
selling tickets to an event, we still accept this as non low quality because the event is still the main activity.
● We want to avoid events that more closely resemble an advertisement rather than a unique activity for the user.
This includes events created to promote a sale, tour package, cause, etc.
● For events that take place on multiple days - there must enough activities happening on each day to be
considered an event. (Conference → YES, Registration period, “call to action” → NO)
● Virtual runs, fundraisers, auctions → YES
● Dance class every friday for a month → YES (recurring event)

Can you rate this event? Q1
NO YES
● We are evaluating if there is a real event embedded within the reference post that takes places after the date of the
reference post.
○ If necessary, use a calendar to determine specific days of the week that are inferred within the post.
● A real event is a gathering of people online or in the real world
● Specific location is NOT required in order for an event to be real.
● We do NOT accept events taking place before the date of the reference post.
● There must be confirmation that the event is happening in the future.
● The post should have a specific future time that is written in the post text or on the images, or it must be feasible to infer
from the post that the creator must know the specific time or day. Otherwise, we do not accept posts where the
possibility of a future event is too ambiguous.
● Cancelled future events are NOT acceptable as future events. However, if a post references a cancelled future event, you
must evaluate the remainder of the post to determine if there are any other valid future events.
● Registrations for future events that take place at a specific time/day are acceptable as events
● If there are multiple events in the post that are hosted by different entities, choose to capture the event that is most likely
to be hosted by the post author
● We do not accept bar happy hours as events (unless it represents a more unique activity)
● Open houses are treated as events.
● For further understanding, make sure to read “What is an Event?” below.
