Noor is a Project Estimator and she is computing the estimated duration for collecting
requirements using the PERT formula. According to her experience in the worst case,
this activity would take15 days. When there are no problems at all then 8 days are
required. Under normal conditions 10 days, it would take days. Calculate the
estimated duration using the PERT formula and input the following values. (15

1- Identify Optimistic Duration [OD] (2 marks)

- 8 days

2- Identify Most Likely duration [ML] (2 marks)

- 10 days

3- Identify Pessimistic Duration [PD] (2 marks)

4- Identify duration calculated using PERT formula. Round your answer to zero
decimal places [DURATION]. (9 marks)

- PERT weighted average = optimistic time + 4X most likely time +

pessimistic time

Question3 (CLO4) (25

marks)

Farah is the project manager for an application development project. The project budget
is AED 200,000. The project should be finished in 8 months.

By the end of the fourth month, Farah and her team should have completed 60% of the
work. She has completed 65% of the project and spent AED 150,000.

a. Calculate the following: BAC, AC, PV, EV, CV, SV, CPI, SPI, EAC and ETC.
(20 marks, 2 marks each)

BAC = 200 000

AC = 150 000
PV = 4/8 * 200 000 = 100 000
EV = 0.65/1 * 200 000 = 130 000
CV = 130 000 – 150 000 = -20 000
SV = 130 000 – 100 000 = 30 000
CPI = 130 000 / 150 000 = 0,867
SPI = 130 000 / 100 000 = 1.3
EAC = 200 000 / 0.867 = 230 680.5
ETC = 230 680.5 – 150 000 = 80 680.5

b. How is the project doing in terms of cost and budget? (5 marks)

graphics and approving design
 Project content which will include selecting the content writers, writing the
content and inserting the content on web pages.
 Development which will include setting up the website in test environment,
performing test, approving website and setting it up in a live environment.

The project requires one graphic designer, two content writers and one web developer.

The graphic designer charges AED150 per hour and will require 10 hours to complete
the required designs.

The content writers who should be hired to write the web content charge AED100 per
hour, and they need 30 hours of work to complete the job.

Web developer charges AED200 per hour for 40 hours of work required.

The equipment required for the project is 4 laptops at a cost of AED3000 each, and a
printer for AED1000.
Material needed for content writing includes books, and stationary. The books cost
AED 3000 and the stationary cost will be AED 200.

b. Calculate the budget required for the project. (15 marks)

- Personnel = ( 150*10) + 100* 30 + 200*40 = 12 500

- Equipment = 4*3000 + 1000 = 13 000
- Material = 3000 + 200 = 3200
Total = 12 500 + 13 000 + 3200 = 28700
