Goals & Reflections

  Progress updates & comments

Writing -  27/05/2020:
differentiation  - PRT meeting with Adele after school. Decided
in writing  that my goal for term two will be differentiation
lessons  in writing lessons.

02/06/2020:
- During release I did a lot of research on how to
have a differentiated writing programme in the
classroom:
- Developed writers: use posters/fact cards
and non-fictional books. Can use a
dictionary and a writing checklist.
- Emerging writers: Need a sentence starter
and word bank. Use posters/fact cards.
- Non-writers: conference and using a
modelling book as a group.
- Put the class into writing groups.

09/06/2020:
- On my release day I made resources for my
writing groups for them to use:
- Word mats/banks
- Writing templates
- Descriptive writing words (flash cards)

12/06/2020:
- I had a meeting with Marissa about my
appraisal goal and what it means, the steps I
need to take, how I will know when I’ve achieved
it, etc. I decided that I would connect my
appraisal goal with this goal - writing. This goal
is to focus on differentiation, but I am going to
link it with my appraisal goal which is using
self-assessment and peer feedback in writing. I
believe that these can work well together and
increase the quality of the students learning, as
they can reflect on their individual needs and
goals (differentiated) by using self-assessment
and peer feedback.

29/06/2020:
- Observation by Adele. Writing prompt is ‘Winter
Wonderland’. We watched a virtual walk through
a winter wonderland (sensory), then made
poster brainstorms with a focus on using
adjectives, and then I worked with a low group
in writing on the jellybean table by using the
modelling book.

01/07/2020:
- Meeting with Adele about my observation. She
said that it ran successfully, the kids were
engaged, the resources and activities were
appropriate and worked well, and that she
particularly liked the modelling book and the
template in there that I used with the students
who needed extra support.

Overall Goal Reflection:

The term two goal was to have differentiation in my writing programme. I
started by making my class into three different groups where they
have their own group boxes with differentiated resources. I began by
having templates for them to use in their writing. When I first put this
into practice, it took some time for them to get a grasp on how to use
them. I think that they found these useful as long as they had copied
it into their books before the lesson finished. This will continue to be
a work in progress on what resources are helpful for them. When I
had my observation from Adele, she said that the lesson was really
good which boosted my confidence. She said that the collective
brainstorm on the posters, the visuals (sensory) and the modelling
book worked great with the class. I need to make sure that I regularly
use this in my writing lessons.
