How bad is it if you don't use social media well

Teens usually use social media for entertainment, such as watching videos, movies, and playing
games. Types of social media that provide entertainment, such as youtube, Facebook, line, etc.
Teens also often use social media to find information that is closely related to schoolwork. For
example, looking for information related to preparing internship reports and research reports.
The information sought is usually related to the theory and format of the report preparation.
Apart from information related to school work, adolescents are also looking for the latest
information, such as news and other types of information that are usually not age-appropriate.

The three most popular social media platforms among teens are YouTube (according to a 2018
Pew Research Center survey the percentage is 85%), Instagram (72%), and Snapchat (69%).
According to a 2018 report released by GlobalWebIndex, people between the ages of 16 and 24
spend an average of 3 hours a day using social media. Today, most teenagers spend up to 9 hours
a day on social media platforms. Now, 30% of total time online is spent on social media
interactions, while the majority of time online is spent on mobile phones, around 60%.

When opening social media, teenagers are like crazy and forget the time to make their schedule
of activities messy, sometimes the time for studying is even used for playing social media. Teens
who always want to know everything will feel comfortable when playing social media and dive
into all information from social media without being filtered first and the worst possibility is that
their identity is affected by bad information received from social media.

It is not impossible for teens who experience online harassment to do the same to others. Wisely
using social media is to increase your ability to protect yourself from the negative impact social
media consumption has on your mental health. Blurring the boundaries of private and public
space on social media has a negative impact, especially among teenagers in Indonesia. Bullying,
beatings that unfortunately lead to life is the same phenomenon as the use of social media among
Indonesian teenagers. The emergence of social media has changed the way of interacting and
changed traditional values. Unfortunately, teens are victims of the changing way they interact
through social media.

Social media cannot be separated from its positive or negative impacts, and the impact depends
on the user. Even adolescence is a very critical period because it has entered a period of
transition to seek identity. But young people can also limit themselves to good norms and
morals. The formation of character from a very young age, including adolescence, is very
important for the future of the youth itself and the future of the nation as a whole. As the
successor of the country, young people with good, strong, and tough characters will be able to
advance the country.
