11. Label and describe the 3 phases of the menstrual cycle on the diagram below.

First Is the follicular phase starts on the first day of your period so there is some overlap with the menstrual phase and ends when you ovulate. The
next one is ovulation, this process starts about 14 days Ovulation is when your ovary releases a mature egg. The egg travels down the fallopian tube
toward the uterus to be fertilized by sperm. Also during this phase, there is an increase in the amount and thickness of mucus produced by the
cervix. And lastly the final phase is called the luteal phase, this phase last about day 15 to day 28, After the follicle releases its egg, it changes into
the corpus luteum. This structure releases hormones, mainly progesterone and some estrogen. The rise in hormones keeps your uterine lining thick
and ready for a fertilized egg to implant.
12. Describe the role of the corpus luteum.
The corpus luteum secretes the hormone progesterone. It is a dynamic endocrine gland within the ovary that plays an integral role in
regulation of the menstrual cycle and early pregnancy.
