Lesson focus: Benefits of Muscle Strength training program/participate in a
Muscular strength workout.

Safety Considerations (Emotional/Physical):

Students will be participating virtually from their homes and need to ensure they have adequate space to
complete the workout. Proper warm up will reduce the risk of injury. Positive reinforcement of active
participation will aid in emotional safety during the workout.
Equipment: NA

National Standards Addressed: Standard 1. The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in
a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

NJ  Student Learning Standards Addressed: 2.5 Motor Skill Development: All students will utilize safe,
efficient, and effective movement to develop and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
2.1 Wellness: All students will acquire health promotion concepts and skills to support a healthy, active
lifestyle.

NJ Outcomes (Cumulative Progress Indicators) Addressed: 2.1.4.A.2 Determine the relationship of

personal health practices and behaviors on an individual’s body systems.
2.5.4.A.1 Explain and perform essential elements of movement skills in both isolated settings (i.e., skill
practice) and applied settings (i.e., games, sports, dance, and recreational activities). 2.5.4.A.2 Use body
management skills and demonstrate control when moving in relation to others, objects, and boundaries in
personal and general space.

Expectation . We will first go through a PowerPoint and then discuss what we learned. Then, we are
s going to perform a strength training circuit as a class. Are there any questions about
today’s class?

Transition to next task: Please have me on speaker view and get ready to go through
the power point. Can you all see the PowerPoint?

Lesson 1-2 Great Job today everyone. Today We discussed health benefits of strength training.
Closure & min We know that Strength training increases muscle mass and strength, increases bone
Review density and reduces the risk of fracture and provides increased cognitive function
especially in the hippocampus, where memory and learning take place. How does
everyone feel after the workout? Make sure you eat a well-balanced lunch with all the
food groups and drink plenty of water. Again, Great job today!
Lesson Describe the degree to which you will utilize pedagogical content knowledge to help
Reflection students meet each learning outcome:
Teacher Effectiveness:
1. Positive Environment: This will be carried out using positive reinforcement and
encouragement during skill related tasks and positive affirmations during oral
response tasks.
2. Students will Share what they learned from the Powerpoint about health benefits of
strength training.
3. Student Engagement: Students will be aware of the lesson progression and be
informed when transitions are going to happen so they can be ready to transition.
4. Engaging students in learning: Monitoring of student tasks will be done via zoom
cameras. Reinforcement of skill tasks will take place throughout learning segments.
5. Enhancing student learning: Group discussion will give students an opportunity to
vocalize what they heard during the strength training PP. Students will also have an
opportunity to provide more benefits during breaks when we perform the circuit.
Appendix Strength Training Circuit
1. Squats-20 controlled squats, rest 10 seconds
2. Pushups- 10 pushups, modified if necessary, rest 10 seconds
3. Lunges- 5 each side, rest 10-20 seconds
4. Shoulder touches- 5 each side, modified if necessary, rest 10-20 seconds
5. 180 squats- 10, rest 10-20 seconds

7. Pushups-10, modified if necessary, rest 10-20 seconds
8. Bicycles- 20 seconds- rest 60 seconds, then repeat.
Breaks: The first round can be done with minimal to no breaks in between exercises
except for the amount of time it takes to inform students of the next exercise and
ensure they can perform with proper form. Seconds round there can be more of a
“break” as there will not need to be as much demonstration.
