What do you think is the main goal or objective of Ethics? What does it promote, ensure or
protect?

Ethics deals with human nature, it seeks to understand what is good for the individual
person and society. The word ethics came from the Greek word ethos which means character
or habit, it is a moral philosophy that is concerned with how we make decisions about moral
standard behavior.
The goal of ethics isn’t just about teaching us about morality and memorize it in our
brain but it’s main objective is to input this knowledge in us and to be able to use this in our
daily lives. When questioned about morality one cannot simply take a course of action by only
the means of thinking using our brain or just by following the feelings that we have in our
hearts. Ethics makes people think before they act, one cannot simply overlook something if
he/she knows that the course of action that is being taken is morally wrong because that will be
irrational. In times when morality is being challenged every day, where laws like abortion,
euthanasia and same sex marriage are being approved, ethics plays a big part of questioning its
weight in regards with human principles and righteousness. But it doesn’t always give us the
right answers but makes us think deeper to the questions and helps us to think more clearly so
that we can come up with the best possible answers. It is to develop moral agency and to be
ethically sensitive and responsible that will able to form virtues and characters which in the
greater run will help people to have a strong sense of ethical leadership. It wants to ensures
that ethics doesn’t just stay inside us but also to be able to express this moral conduct. Ethics is
only a concept unless used and applied in real life but is not something that everyone must be
obligated to do because it must be from the heart and with great sincerity to be able to take
one step of being a good person.
