Technology Standard Addressed: 1a- Set professional learning goals to explore and apply pedagogical
approaches made possible by technology and reflect on their effectiveness.

Overarching Question: What’s the importance of all the American Symbols?

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☒ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable): www.kahoot.com

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☒ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☐ Teacher-Paced ☒ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☒ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity: The students will require knowledge of the American symbols from the lesson previous to
this one. They will use that knowledge to log onto Kahoot, and click the correct answers to the Kahoot quiz.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation

☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: Students will all be helped with the logging in
process of Kahoot. I will then pass out clickers for them to use, so they can choose the answers that they
believe is correct on the Kahoot quiz. I will be guiding them through every question, and assessing their
answers so I can help them with any weaknesses. The only materials needed are a computer, tablet, or phone
and of course, clickers.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (7-10). If you
cannot provide one or two critical thinking questions in your assessment, please list a question or two you
would want students to provide an open response to below. Use your Bloom’s terms to design the
question(s): 1. What country represents this flag?
2. What does the bald eagle represent?
3. What president had this monument named after him?
4. Finish this: “I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the
republic, for which it stands……”
5. What is the Star-Spangled Banner?
6. Who lives in the White House?
7. What is the name of this Statue?

Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity? How will the data be used? The data that will be
collected, is the students’ knowledge of their American Symbols. I will take note of who is having trouble, and
focus on helping those who need extra time learning the subject. I won’t make this activity a grade, I will do it
solely for tracking their strengths and weaknesses. I will discuss the anonymous data with the class, because it
will be a good end to the lesson. I will also go over the Kahoot quiz again and let my students see the correct
answers, so they can take the correct answers and study them.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I have never used a student response tool to assess
students’ strengths and weaknesses, so this will definitely be different for me. I hope this will help me
become a better teacher, so I can better teach my students for their future success.
Reflective Practice: I definitely think that this lesson with Kahoot will be highly beneficial for my students. It
will make learning fun for them, and will encourage to learn the material. In a previous lesson I taught them
the symbols of America through Padlet, so the Kahoot is a little refresher to see if they remembered the
material. I can further extend this lesson by having students create a little booklet on their knowledge of
American symbols.
