Appropriate maintenance procedures are essential for the reliable
operation of the rotary swivel or top drive and the safety of the rig
crew. This manual is not intended to replace the OEM installation,
care and operation manual that is provided by the manufacturer.
You should keep the OEM ICO manual close at hand when
performing maintenance or inspection on the rotary swivel or top
drive.

You must not compromise crew safety or the integrity of the

equipment by your choice of methods, tools or parts. Use this tool
in conjunction with your ICO manual to identify special areas of
concern. Precautions in the manual such as danger, warning and
caution alert you to serious hazards that could result in death, loss
of limbs or serious injury if not observed.

Other precautions such as attention, notice and important are also

used to call attention to actions that will cause damage to the
rotary swivel / top drive, its components or attachments.

Before proceeding with rotary swivel or top drive maintenance the

power to the mud pumps, top drive and rotary table should be shut
off. All the pressure should be bled off from the standpipe, rotary
hose and rotary swivel or top drive. Lockouts should be in place as
well as all appropriate protective gear. Personal safety equipment
