LESSON PLAN IN 21st CENTURY LITERATURE


I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Understand the origin of testimonio;
2. Read literary selections that are considered testemonio; and
3. Create a visual representation of the themes of the testimonio.

Motivation/Activity
REENACTMENT
The students will be having a reenactment or to throwback a memory from the past. They will be
gathering data from a source of what was happened on the specific period of time given to them.
They will group into 4 groups. They present the period of time assigned to them on how people walk
through that period, especially their sufferings, victory or undertaking.
GROUP 1 - Spanish Regime in the Philippines
GROUP 2 - Philippines Independence Day
GROUP 3 - Ferdinand Marcos Presidency
GROUP 4 - Marawi Crisis

Analyses:
1. In doing the reenactment, what did you learn?
2. How does the flow of the scenario materialized and being deliver properly?
3. If you were on that scenario in real life, will you able to narrate every single details?

Abstraction:
TESTIMONIAL LITERATURE - is an authentic narrative, told by a witness who is koved to narrate
by the urgency of a situation. Emphasizing popular oral discourse, the witness portrays his or her
own experience as a representative of a collective memory and identity. Truth is summoned in the
cause of denouncing a present situation of exploitation and oppression or exorcising and setting
aright official history (Yudice 1985).

Application:
1. Text Reading: Autobiographical Fiction by Carl Jerome Velasco
Explain the quote: “ To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you
something else is the greatest accomplishment” by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Literary Connection:
Make an editorial cartoon that describes the struggles and discrimination experienced by
the members of the LGBT community. Write a 3-5 sentences explanation about it.

IV. Evaluation
Conduct a research on the struggles of Filipino migrant or immigrant workers abroad. Pick out
one story that touches you the most. Summarize the story and write a short reflection.
