1. What are the purpose of Presidential Decree 1006?

The late president Ferdinand Marcos declares Presidential Decree 1006, wherein

the teacher education shall be provided immediate attention and recognition by the

government and shall be of the highest quality.

The purpose of this policy is that the teacher education shall take an

examination. When they passed, they will be qualified for certification as professional

teachers. And by that means, this policy will help prepare teachers in the teaching field,

and it will hone their abilities. It also clears the point of the qualification needed to be

considered professional teachers. It will set educators to the fullest and give quality

education to their students.

Furthermore, these decrees help us, future teachers, to become knowledgeable

of the career we are practicing. For at least, we know the various laws about the

professionalization of a teacher. Step by step, we can suffice those terms with the help

of an initial knowledge bestowed to us by the different laws.

AN ACT TO STRENGTHEN THE REGULATION AND SUPERVISION OF THE

PRACTICE OF TEACHING IN THE PHILIPPINES AND PRESCRIBING A LICENSURE

EXAMINATION FOR TEACHERS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

It stated that the State recognizes teachers' vital role in nation-building and

development through a competent and literate citizenry. Towards this end, the State

shall secure and promote quality education by proper administration and regulation of

the licensure examination and professionalization of the teaching profession's practice.

Moreover, it also states that they must have acquired 60 continuing professional

education units for the teacher to renew his license. While it is stated in the law, as

masters of lifelong learning, teachers must extend knowledge because the world never

ceases to make new things to our tables every day. Despite the temporary suspension

of that provision in the law, the teacher must take the initiative to seek knowledge

further to be able to dispense wisdom to the learners.
