STUDY PLAN

My major now is the theoretical study in Physics of Electronic Materials. My interest in

electronics has emerged when I was studying in the Master’s degree. After finishing my
undergraduate study, Electronic Materials has always been the subject that fascinate me most
with its power of applications and theoretical study. It is also obvious that I was deeply learning
this area during my Master’s degree. I have taken some courses such as Optoelectronic, Solid
State Electronic Device I and II, Advanced Solid State Physics, Chrystal Growth and Defect
Theory, Material Structure and Properties, Semiconductor Devices Fabrication, and Principles
Semiconductor Devices Theory. All those courses have developed some good concepts and
understanding of how to find Spectrum Energy in Quantum Dot Structure, how to investigate
AlGaAs/GaAs works and electron transport in Semiconductor. They were the seeds of my
research.

I am now conducting a research is about how to find Exact Analytical Solutions Describing
Quantum Dot in Semiconductor Materials. This is not a new area because for more than two
decades many researchers had worked in this field. However, the uniqueness of my research is
found in the way that how I made the theoretical concept in the spectrum energy of
semiconductor materials.

Until now, I have only studied Semiconductor Materials and Devices in the theoretical
concepts because laboratory equipments in my country are not adequate, so I want to study it in
experimental research for then. The Electronic Materials research in Semiconductor Materials
and Devices is not popular in my province and institution (University of HKBP Nommensen), so
I want to develop it in my institution. Reflected on those situations and after seeing the website of
the Department of Electronic Engineering, NTUST, and consulting with the members of NTUST-
ISA (Indonesian Student Association), I came to the conclusion that the Department of Electronic
Engineering in NTUST is the best place for me to continue, improve, and make a new direction
of my research field. If I can get the opportunity to be the part of NTUST intellectual stimulating
environment and community, I am sure that my talents and time will be put to the optimal use to
work on reserarh area of the Investigation of GaAs/AlGaAs Quantum Dot Structure and
Semiconductor Materials and Devices. Moreover, I want to build mutual relationship with both
my institution University of HKBP Nommensen Medan and NTUST.

STUDY PLAN (Marojahan Tampubolon)

I have graduated from Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Sumatera Utara, the
biggest university in North Sumatera, Indonesia. I am interested in Electrical Enginering since I
was in primary school. Now, I am working as non-permanent lecturer in a private college in
Medan the capital city of North Sumatera. For me, to be a lecturer is not only about job. But the
main reason for me is because of calling. I want to devote my self to develop sciences and
technology in my country Indonesia. For this purpose, I have a strong willingness to continue my
study to the next level, pursuing master and even doctor degree. I realize that studying and
research much more will maximaze my potency to be a scientist and reseacher who have high
competence.
Because of the funding reason, I search for scholarship program to get master degree. In the past I
have tried to apply to NTUST scholarship program for spring 2012. I accepted in Graduate
Program in Electrical Engineering Department without scholarship. Because of this condition, I
couldn’t attend the program because I cannot fund my self by my self. The same reason problem
will be happen if I am accepted without scholarship.
Now, I apply to the same scholarship program as before, but in a different department. I want to
continue to study in Master Degree in Electronic Department, Specially in Power Electronic.
Besides because I like electronic field, another reason is because I know that electronic
technology is very important in automatitation technology. The integration of electronic and
power will give a wide effect for human being. Reliability, quality and efficiency of electric
power are related to reliability of electronic systems. I want to go deep into the improvement of
power quality and efficiency by electronic engineering.
In undergraduated program I studied some courses which are related to that goal. Some of them
are Basic Electronics, Basic of Digital Enggineering, Microproscessor System, Electric Circuit,
Basic of Control Systems, and Power Electronics. Beside those courses, my job as a lecturer that
teach Basic Electronics and the basic understanding of electronic software also has equiped me to
go to the next level of this field of study. To understand more about Power Electronics and to
prepare my self for the better foundation of Power Electronics, now, I am studying some books
by my self. Those books are Fundamental of Power Electronics (Erickson, Robert W, 2000) and
Introduction to Power Electronic (Valery Vodovozoz, 2010). I hope that I have more time to
study the other books.

For adviser if I accepted in this program, I have requested by email the readinees of Prof. Yu
Kang Lo as my adviser. And he replied that he ready to be my adviser, and welcomed me to
join the team in his lab. So, I hope to join this team in laboratory to improve my selft and give my
contribution to the team.
Taiwan is a country which has a very rapid growing in lectronic techology. So, I think this
country is the best choice to study about electronics. NTUST as the leading university in Taiwan
is the great place for me to grow and improving my self. I desire to be the part of this educated
community, which will trigger my potential improvement. If I get the chance to join here, I will
give my best perform and finish the master degree in 2 years.
After completed this program, in the next I want to continue to doctoral degree. If all of those
programs completed, my deepest commitment is to go back to the university in Indonesia. To be
a lecturer and researcher is the most willingness of me. I have a desire to transfer and develop the
knowledge that I have gained from this program to the students in Indonesia. I want to motivate
and equip them to develop electonic field in practical application which can be use by the society,
companies, government and private institution. Share and spread the knowledge I have is the
happines of live for me.
