related to experiences and familiar oral, playgrounds being discussed
print and other media text

Assessment
Observations: I will assess student’s ability to compare different structures as well as their
ability to express their ideas to the class

Materials
- Have scavenger hunt ready to go
Time Activity
- For this activity I will take students on a trip around the world as we look at
playgrounds in a variety of locations. This scavenger hunt will take place on my
professional portfolio (www.missharker.weebly.comClassroom Application
Kindergarten (PSIII)  Playgrounds from around the world)
1 min - I will start off this activity by explaining to the students that we are all going to
be pilots today as we fly from one playground to the next. I will point out that a
great pilot is one that is very focussed and so the pilots in our class that show the
most focus will get to choose our next destination
1 min - I will then start our trip off by showing the students Galbraith Elementary
school’s playground after which I will show them the world map and will explain
the map pins (each is a different location of a playground)
12 min - I will choose a student who is sitting quietly with their legs crossed (or nicely on
a chair/bench) to pick our first location (they can tell me the pin colour).
- After a location is chosen, I will tell students where we are traveling to and will
then ask them to pretend to fly a plane until I say “3,2,1, landing” and then they
will sit back down
- I will show students the park at that location and will ask them to tell me
something that they notice about the playground (is it similar or different than
other playgrounds we’ve looked at). After 2-3 students have shared we will move
onto a new location and will continue the same pattern
- There are 6 different locations to travel to and we will go through as many as
time permits
Transition
1 min If time permits, I will ask students to think about whether there were things that
they liked or didn’t like about the different playgrounds that we looked at
