REFLECTION PAPER ON HOW TO BECOME A RESOURCEFUL TECHER

What makes a resourceful teacher a great teacher? Such an important and fundamental
question; isn’t it?” Teachers are in a position to have a significant influence on the students they teach.
There are probably one or more teachers from your past that have helped, stimulated, encouraged or
even inspired you. So exactly what makes a resourceful teacher?

Being enthusiastic, committed, concerned, and creative can help teachers to

become resourceful even when not well resourced. These are just some of the few characteristics that
a resourceful teacher should have. A resourceful teacher should be enthusiastic or should be showing
interest both to the students and to the lessons as well. A teacher should always be prepared when
going inside the classroom. A teacher should always create an atmosphere of increase student’s
engagement every time a teacher is inside the classroom. So how does the teacher do this? He needs to
be prepared and well versed on his topic so that the learners will be motivated to engage in the
discussion. Another thing is the teacher should always treat his learners equally and fairly without any
reservation. In this way the learners will feel that they are being prioritized by their teacher so the more
they will feel eager to participate in the discussion.

Another characteristic that a teacher should have is commitment. So how does this contribute
to being a resourceful teacher? When a teacher is committed, he always come to the class prepared. He
makes sure that the lesson plan is well aligned with the different competencies of the subject. He also
makes sure that the objectives of the lessons will actually be achieved by the students. So does he do it?
His objectives are anchored to the acronym SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time
bounded which will be easier for the teacher to focus on his goal which is to impart knowledge to the
students. In the end, he does not value what will be the output rather how the students were able to
come up with that output.in short the teacher should be performance oriented.

Another is concerned which the teacher should also have. How does this contribute to being a
resourceful? Well if a teacher has a concern for his students, then definitely he will value everyone
inside his classroom regardless of their social status and background in life. He well treat all his students
fairly and equally. Through this way, all students will be given opportunity inside the classroom.
Eventually student will be motivated to participate more in the discussion. Because a good teacher
shows no boundaries in education.

Lastly, a resourceful teacher should be creative in everything. We all know the situation of our
students in public school. Some of them come from the poorest of the poor family. So as a teacher, it is
our responsibility that we will try to utilize every resources that are available to be used as means of
instructions. We have to make sure that despite the scarcity of these resources that can be used for
instructional materials, still we are able to produce quality instructional materials that will make our
students engage more in the lesson. Anyway teachers are always good in innovation, so they can always
come up with new and brilliant ideas for the lesson.
