Theoretical Background

The fundamental basis for this study is grounded on the theory of Williams and

Gurtoo.

Modernization Theory

Theories has been often framed about the relationship between street vending and

the state. More generally, within the study of informality. While a number of studies

have been performed, specifically, have looked at the phenomena or street vending, few

have grown as great theories, but rather have discussed the different forms and

circumtances in which state instructions are related to so-called informal operations. It

is also hard to remove from wider and more abstract ideas like the informal economy,

notions of street vending. The street vending studies and other activities related to the so-

called informal sector have been examined. In the wide disciplinary realm of

development studies, it has historical been carried out.

This theory is all about how flexible the street vendors when they encounter

uncertainties and adapt different strategies to attain development of their business.

Reformist Theory

This theory assisted Modernization Theory by Jimu in 2016. The article is a central

evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of street vendors and adequate

supervision and control; deliver economic transformation of poorer urban communities

may be street vending. There is no need to stop street vendors from practicing

romanticism and pedantic checks and rules. This is a challenge in the perception that

only by fostering large-scale prosperity can be achieved. The need to provide all the

public and private economic enterprises and the latitude to contribute their own part may

however tend to be meager individual efforts and achievements.

Marxist Theory

This Theory also supports the Modernization Theory by Crossa. Traditionally, the

research was performed in a wide disciplinary area. Originally considered an occurrence

restricted geographically to developed nations informal economy. Pre-modern sector has

been described as a number of economic activities noy contributing to the Global

economic development and Global economic status growth. This is rather compatible

approach with the classical theory of modernization.

Review of Related Literature

The most direct tangible benefit of generating profit is that you have an ability to retain

profits and improve the position of your equity.

According to Balbuena et. al (2020) in their article For World’s Street Vendors, Life May

Never Be The Same After COVID–19, the search for food, street vendors themselves will not be

alone. Low-income households dependent on street food supply vendors now have to pay more

for access to food. That would have widespread effects. A study from the United Nations reports

that this pandemic could double the number of people suffering from acute hunger, trigger a

global recession that could disrupt food supply chains and add to the hardships and real concerns

of people employed in the informal economy.

According to Sumy (2020) in her article How Are The Pandemic-Stricken Street Food

Vendors, she stated that the pandemic has unprecedentedly impacted the livelihoods of people.

When you need to draw strength from your reserves to strike back against all odds, these are

desperate times. In the aftermath of the corona virus pandemic, the street food suppliers and their

patrons, although limited in size, have gathered courage to restart their businesses, in hopes of

regaining a normal economic life status.

In line with this, Hattam (2020) in her article As The World Stays Home, Street Vendors

Fight To Survive, she stated that many national and local governments have classified mobile

food vendors as essential workers, particularly those who sell fresh produce and other staples.

However, they also face a number of barriers, including a dramatic reduction of potential buyer’s

foot traffic; restrictions on travel between rural areas where food is produced and the cities when
it is sold; and growing stock prices due to hedging by more well – off consumers because of the

pandemic outbreak.
