Lesson Title: Study for the Tool Test

Grade/Name of Course: Engineering Technology Education

Materials and equipment needed for lesson:

Student laptops/internet access/Quizlet

50 tools laid out in shop for identification

Objectives: The learners will be able to…..

1. Identify 50 types of tools visually and use proper nomenclature.

2. Identify what each tool is used for, based on its design.

Introduction to the Lesson/Hook:

There is an upcoming test on identifying visually and naming 50 tools correctly. Most of these

tools are seen around the house, while some are more specialized. Tool identification is

important, because using the right tool for a project makes a project much easier to build or

14
design. Using the wrong tools for a project can increase the amount of time and work you do

and/or damage the project/object/material.

Higher Order Thinking (HOT) Questions:

What is the purpose of a tool?

What is the difference between a hand tool and power tool?

Even though we have ways to power tools, why are some manual tools being produced?

Content to be presented in lesson:

50 tools that need to be identified and their nomenclature.

Differences between each tool and the scenarios in which they would be used.

How to identify what each tool is used for based on its design.

Learning activities/procedures:

 Quizlet – Multiple choice questionnaire. Identifying tools by nomenclature and visually

 Tools will be laid out in the shop. Students will be able to go and inspect each tool as necessary.

Summary/Closure/Review of Content:

Students will have learned to identify 50 tools visually and by their nomenclature. Students will

have general knowledge about how and why each tool is used.

Evaluation/assessment of student learning:

Quizlet – multiple choice metrics/grades
