Experiment 01

Common Emitter Amplifier

Objectives:

1. To apply a sine wave signal wave to a common-emitter transistor amplifier and measure
some of its important characteristics. The next objective is to compare the input signal to the
output signal in terms of amplitude and phase relationship.

Equipment / Tool:

1. Transistor 3904.
2. MCP M21-7000 trainer.
3. Multimeter.
4. Oscilloscope.
5. 10µF Capacitors.
6. Resistors1KΩ, 10KΩ, 100Ω.

Background

The common-emitter transistor configuration has many characteristics that make it useful for a
variety of applications. As a result, it is the mostly widely used for the three basic transistor
configurations. In this experiment, you will construct a common emitter amplifier circuit and
apply an AC signal. You will then subject the circuit to several tests and calculate he voltage
gain. You will also compare the input signal with the output signal to determine if this circuit can
produce amplification or not.

Procedure:
Construct the following circuit on the trainer and verify its output.

Results:
Fill in the following results obtained from the experiment:-

Voltage Gain= ________________________________________.

Current Gain=_________________________________________.

Output in phase or not = ________________________________.

Oscilloscope Outputs:

Draw the outputs of both the input and output on the same graph as follows:
