Cell Organelles Bio 1.1.

Organelle Function Picture Found in

Plants/Animals/ Both
Cell Membrane  Regulates what Both
goes in and out of
the cell
 Provides Support
Cell Wall  Protect & Support Plants
 Made from
cellulose (carbs)

Nucleus  Controls most cell Both

processes

Ribosome  Site of Protein Both

Synthesis
 Small particles of
RNA and Protein
Chloroplast  Site of Plants
Photosynthesis

Mitochondrion  Converts food Both

into energy (ATP)
 Has 2 membranes
 More folds, more
energy.
Vacuole  Stores water, salt, Both
proteins, and
more.

Golgi Body (apparatus)  Modifies, Sorts Both

(complex) and Packages
Protein

Smooth ER (endoplasmic  Makes hormones Both

reticulum) and Lipids
 Does NOT contain
ribosomes
Rough ER (endoplasmic  Modifies & Both
reticulum) Transports
proteins.
 Does NOT make
proteins
Lysosomes  Use enzymes to Animals
break down lipids
 Break down
organelles
Cell Analogy Poster
 You will need to compare an animal and a plant cell (2 cell analogy pictures) to something. For
example a plant/animal cell is like a factory. You may not use a factory. You will divide your poster
into 2 or use front and back.
 Draw the actual pictures (not the real organelle pictures), color, and label your drawings.
 Example (do not use this example)
o Nucleus= ceo, manager or boss of factory
o Cell membrane=door to factory
o Cell wall= building walls or fence surrounding building
o Ribosomes= workers in factory
o Vacuole= storage for materials
o Mitochondria= generator
o Chloroplasts=windows or solar panels
o Etcetera
 Be creative and do not copy all of my examples.
