Organelles Function
Nucleus The organelle controls all the activities of a cell & contains DNA
& chromosomes.
Ribosomes A small structure on which cells make their own protein
Golgi bodies This packages & transports materials in & out of a cell
Cytoplasm Constantly moving gel-like mixture that holds all cell organelles in place

Nuclear membrane The outer covering of an animal cell & the second layer of a plant cell
that protects the cell & controls what goes in & out of it
Rough endoplasmic reticulum Organelle that moves materials around in a cell. R.E.R. has
ribosomes attached to it.
Mitochondria Organelle that breaks down fats in a cell & makes energy for
the cell
Endoplasmic reticulum Organelle that moves materials around in a cell. S.E.R. does
NOT have ribosomes attached
Cloroplast (only in a plant cell) Organelle that moves materials around in a cell. R.E.R. has
ribosomes attached to it.
Vacuole
Lysosome
