Speechless by Naomi Scott

Here comes a wave
Meant to wash me away
A tide that is taking me under
Swallowing sand
Left with nothing to say
My voice drowned out in the thunder
But I won't cry
And I won't start to crumble
Whenever they try
To shut me or cut me down
I won't be silenced
You can't keep me quiet
Won't tremble when you try it
All I know is I won't go speechless
'Cause I'll breathe
When they try to suffocate me
Don't you underestimate me
'Cause I know that I won't go speechless
Written in stone
Every rule, every word
Centuries old and unbending
Stay in your place
Better seen and not heard
But now that story is ending
'Cause I
I cannot start to crumble
So come on and try
Try to shut me and cut me down
I won't be silenced
You can't keep me quiet
Won't tremble when you try it
All I know is I…
Let the storm in
I cannot be broken
No, I won't live unspoken
'Cause I know that I won't go speechless
Try to lock me in this cage
I won't just lay me down and die
I will take these broken wings
And watch me burn across the sky
Hear the echoes saying I
Won't be silenced
Though you want to see me tremble when you try it
All I know is I won't go speechless
Speechless
'Cause I'll breathe
When they try to suffocate me
Don't you underestimate me
'Cause I know that I won't go speechless
All I know is I won't go speechless
Speechless

This text is for question number 16 – 18

Have you ever heard about Full Day School (FDS)—a program proposed by Minister of
Education and Culture of Indonesia, Muhadjir Effendy? I’m sure you have, right? Just to refresh your
mind, this learning program is applied for elementary and junior high school students in order to
facilitate them with character education and general education as well. Although this program is well
welcomed by President of Indonesia, Jokowi, does FDS work well? Is it good for students?

Let’s see the advantages of FDS. According to Muhadjir Effendy, this policy is believed to be
an effective way to build students’ character since they will be longer study at school (from 7 a.m.
until 5 p.m.). Muhadjir believes that giving additional time to study at school is better than letting
them to be alone at home since their parents are busy at work. The other consideration is that if
children are longer in school, they can finish their school assignments until they are taken home by
their parents. For other activities like reciting Quran for Muslim, the school sides can invite Ustadz
or religion teacher whose background of knowledge and life have already known. Therefore, students
can obtain good knowledge from teachers who are professional and competent.

Not only does FDS have some advantages, but it also has some disadvantages. First, many
parents don’t approve this kind of program of school. They believe that children need time to take a
nap as it is good for children’ health. Second, students are easily bored. Therefore, if students have
more time to study at school, they will be easily stressed because they must force themselves to
concentrate for long time. The last, FDS program cannot be implemented in some schools which are
located in restricted area. It means the program isn’t suitable with schools whose facilities are lack.

In conclusion, to judge FDS program as a good program or not can be done by seeing its
advantages and disadvantages. We need to think about the objective of schools to assist students
develop their skills, knowledge, and character. So far, our schooling system has tended to put too
many attentions to knowledge.  Therefore, activities in schools should unite those three things in daily
activities to prepare for students to the real world learning. In addition, schools should create rules and
structures that can nurture students’ positive behavior and characters such as respects and cares.

16. According to the text, FDS ….

A. has a lot of advantages in improving the quality of the students’ competences
B. gives no benefit at all for students and parents
C. causes great drawbacks for the Indonesian Education system
D. has both advantages and disadvantages
E. offers only some advantages for students and parents

B. Paragraph 2 is elaborated widely in paragraph 3.
C. Paragraph 2 is against paragraph 3.
D. Paragraph 3 is contextually derived from paragraph 2.
E. Paragraph 2 and 3 discuss the similar point of perspectives about the case.

18. if students have more time to study at school, they will be easily stressed because they
must force themselves to concentrate for long time. What does the conditional sentence
mean?
A. The children are stress
B. The school doesn’t give the children a leisure time
C. The children study hard to force themselves

The Legend of Isis and Osiris

Once upon a time, when the earth was new and everything was just beginning, the earth
was covered with water. An egg floated on the water, just one egg. When that egg hatched, Ra
was born. Ra did not want to spend his time floating around, doing nothing, so he flew into the
sky and became the sun.

Ra dried up much of the water and made the land. Ra was lonely, so he made a wife. He
named her Nut. Ra made many gods and goddesses to keep him company. He put them all to
work. His children were very busy running the world. Still, they took time out to have children,
because children were glorious things to have! Soon, there were many gods and goddesses. Ra
was the father or the grandfather or the great-grandfather of them all!

All children are glorious, but to Ra, one child was especially important. That child was
his grandson, Osiris. Osiris had a brother named Set. Ra thought Set was okay, I suppose, but his
favorite by far was Osiris. To show Osiris how much he was loved, Ra made Osiris the first
Pharaoh of Egypt. Osiris married Isis, his one true love, and the king (Osiris) and queen (Isis)
settled down quite happily with their son (prince) Horus.

Set was terribly jealous. Why should Osiris be named Pharaoh and not him? In a fit of
anger, Set killed his brother Osiris, and chopped him into little pieces. He threw the pieces into
the Nile River. Set was sure he would get away this murder. But you know how rumors spread.
Isis soon heard what Set had done.

Isis managed to gather the pieces of her beloved Osiris. She brought these pieces to her
good friend Anubis, the jackal-headed god. Anubis was very clever. He managed to put the
pieces of Osiris together again. But he did not have the power to bring him back to life, so that
Osiris could retake his place beside his beloved Isis, and rule Egypt as king.

When the great Ra heard about it, he was furious. He gave Osiris a new job, an even
better job. He made Osiris the god of the dead, which was the most important job of all. Osiris
could rule over the land of the dead, and be dead himself. In fact, he would have to be dead to
enter the land of the dead. So things worked out very well, or so Ra believed.

When the young prince Horus heard what his uncle Set had done, although he was still
only a boy, he tracked down his uncle Set and murdered him.

Isis was grateful to her friend Anubis, and to her son Horus, and to her grandfather Ra.
But nothing anyone could do would bring Osiris back to her. He would dwell forever in the land
of the dead, and she would live forever in the land of the living. Isis knew that she would never
see her beloved husband again.

In honor of the god Osiris, the kings (pharaohs) of Egypt carry a crook and a flail, the
signs of Osiris. The crook especially became the sign of rulers. The crook looked a great deal
like a snake and was made out of wood. They used wood because wood was scarce. That made it
even more special.

From then on, and even today, once each year Isis travels to the riverbank. Remembering,
and dreaming, tears fall from her eyes. That is why the Nile River rises each year, to bring life to
everyone and everything along the Nile. When Isis cries, the Nile will rise! And that is a very
important thing.

This text is for question number 35 – 37

In the past years the use of the television and the internet has increased; this situation
has caused many people to change their likes and the way that they enjoy their free time.
Because of television and the internet, many people spend less time reading, so
the purpose for this essay is to present reasons why people should read just for pleasure. The
reasons that I give you are quite simple: to improve your knowledge, to expand your general
culture, to have more fun, to make your imagination fly, to find new ways to express your ideas,
and finally to expand your vocabulary.

The first reason that I give you to enjoy reading is that when you read, you can expand
your knowledge and also your culture. There are a lot of good books in which you can find
history, novels, tragedies, comedies and a variety of other themes. You can see that people who
read more often frequently have a bigger knowledge of life and also a bigger perspective of
their environment. I think that fact gives them an advantage over all others who do not read
frequently.

The second reason to read more often is that through books you can have fun and even
travel in your imagination. Children have not yet lost the ability of getting into their dreams, and
because of this, in their first years the parents read a lot of tales in which they use their
imagination. Adults should try to keep this ability, so we do not forget the importance of the use
of the imagination. The imagination also represents a tool that could help you to develop your
professional career in a creative way.

Finally, the third and the most important feature that reading offers you is that it does not
matter the age that you have, you always could expand your vocabulary and the ways to express
your ideas to the others in a simple and correct form. By the time you can improve the kind of
books that you read, there are a lot of categories, so you will never stop learning from the
pleasure of reading. People who know how to choose a book generally have the capability of
choosing a formal book in which they can find
formal grammatical structures and obviously a formal vocabulary. All these things allow them to
gain greater fluency in their communication.

In conclusion, I recommend that you enjoy reading more often. There are excellent reasons

for doing it; you just have to want to expand your knowledge and your culture, to improve your
imagination and also your vocabulary. I know that we should evolve with the technology; that is,
it is good to know how to navigate in the internet, but we must also not forget the books. Try to
choose good books at the beginning, and then I ensure you that you never will stop reading.
