A. TEST PROCEDURE AND CHECKLIST

Perform a visual inspection to ensure that the equipment or assembly is

correctly built and, so far as can be ascertained, meets all the specified
SAES-P-100
A1 requirements. Before starting a test, perform a visual inspection to check
Sec. 5.2
features such as adequacy of labeling, accessibility for maintenance,
safety, etc. (IEC 60146-2 7.3.1)

SAES-P-100
A2 Perform insulation resistance test. (IEC 60146-2 7.3.3)
Sec. 5.2

Perform function test of auxiliary devices such as contactors, pumps,

SAES-P-100
A3 sequencing equipment, fans, etc. If convenient, this can be done in
Sec. 5.2
conjunction with the light load test. (IEC 60146-2 7.3.2)

Perform routine tests to check the operation of protective devices. It is,

however, not intended that the operation of devices such as fuses, etc., SAES-P-100
A4
where the operation is based on destruction of the operating component, Sec. 5.2
required checking. (IEC 60146-2 7.3.4)

Check all the supervisory and remote signaling circuits. SAES-P-100

A5
(IEC 60146-2 6.2.3 d) Sec. 5.2

SAES-P-100
A6 Check all the measuring devices. (IEC 60146-2 6.2.3 e)
Sec. 5.2

Perform light load test to verify that all parts of the electrical circuit and
SAES-P-100
A7 the cooling of the converter operate properly together with the main
Sec. 5.2
circuit. (IEC 60146-2 7.3.4)

Check the bypass AC line connection to the static switch and to a 17-SAMSS-516
A8
mechanical bypass switch. Sec. 6.4.2

Select in Bypass mode and check, in the event of high inrush current
demanded by the load, or a short circuit condition on the load side, or the
17-SAMSS-516
A9 inverter malfunction or failure, the static switch automatically transfers
Sec. 6.4.4
the load to the bypass AC line without an interruption of power to the
load.

Test the transfer scheme as follows:

If an out-of-limit condition of any kind is sensed on inverter "A", the static
switch shall transfer the load from UPS "A" to the bypass AC line. While
the load is fed from inverter "B", and if an out of limit condition of any kind 17-SAMSS-516
A10
is sensed on inverter "B", the static switch shall transfer the connected Sec. 6.5.5
load to bypass AC line in one step, provided the AC line is within normal
specification and in synch with inverter "B", otherwise the transfer shall
be inhibited.

Perform test that the static switch retransfers the load back to the
17-SAMSS-516
A11 designated preferred inverter after that inverter has returned to normal
Sec. 6.5.5
voltage.

Perform test that UPS has fully discharged its battery to the final voltage
programmed into the UPS, the inverter shall turn off automatically to 17-SAMSS-516
A12
prevent further battery discharge, and the static switch has Sec. 6.5.6
instantaneously transferred the load to the bypass AC line.

Check that the utility power is connected to each rectifier/charger through

17-SAMSS-516
A13 dry-type input isolation transformers. The bypass AC line AC is
Sec. 6.5.3
connected to the static bypass input of both UPS units.
Check the performance requirement of Static Switch nameplate data.

SAES-P-101
A14
Sec. 6.4

Check that upon restoration of utility AC power to one or both units, the
rectifier/chargers shall automatically restart, gradually assume the load of
17-SAMSS-516
A15 the inverters and battery charging, and then the static switch shall
Sec. 6.5.7
automatically retransfer the load from the bypass AC line to the
inverter(s).

Check that each UPS has a static bypass AC line switch for automatic 17-SAMSS-516
A16
transfers to the bypass AC line source. Sec. 6.6.4

Check Static Switch Performance Requirements:

Transfer Time: either direction including logic sensing time 4 milliseconds

17-SAMSS-516
A17
Sec. 7

Check that the UPS system test includes a test, demonstrating the
integrity of the output waveform during the operation of the static switch.
17-SAMSS-516
A18 This demonstration shall be performed by simulating a simultaneous loss
Sec. 11.3
of the battery supply and the rectifier output while the inverter is
delivering its rated capacity.

Check that a solid state make-before-break switch, rated at a minimum of

125% of the UPS rating, is connected between the inverter and the load
and also between the bypass AC line and the load. The static switch 17-SAMSS-516
A19
shall be a naturally commutated high-speed SCR type device. The Sec. 6.7.6.1
inverter side static switch function may be integrated into the inverter's
IGBT switching devices.

Perform test that the static switch transfer the UPS load to the bypass
AC line when the transfer logic senses any of the following conditions.
However, the transfer shall not be permitted unless the bypass AC line is
in synch with the inverter and within normal specifications.
a) Inverter overload capacity exceeded. 17-SAMSS-516
A20 b) UPS load over voltage or under voltage. Sec. 6.7.6.5
c) Battery low voltage disconnect activated.
d) UPS failure or "out-of-limit" condition.
e) Manual signal.

Check that the static switch is braced for the fault current of the bypass 17-SAMSS-516
A21
AC line transformer. Sec. 6.7.6.8

Check that as a minimum, the UPS is included with the following

controls. The operating set points may be user programmed by
password protected key pad entries, or software programmable:

Perform following alarm tests annunciated at the UPS unit with audible
and visual display of an alarm condition. All alarms are displayed on the
LCD monitoring panel. These alarms shall remain latched until manually
reset after the alarm condition has cleared. 17-SAMSS-516
A23
b) Bypass AC line voltage/synch source not available at the static switch Sec. 6.7.10.1
c) Critical load supplied power through the static transfer switch

B. TEST EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS CRITERIA

1. The instruments used for voltage measurement shall be voltmeters of an accuracy class equal to 0,5 or better. The resistance of the voltmeters
used shall be at least 1 kΩ/V (see IEC 60051 or IEC 60485).
