“Many films are a bad influence on young people.” Do you agree?

Films are common means of entertainment. Comedies, horror movies, films having
adventurous plots- well, there are so many for different kind of viewers. Children, young
people, adults and also the elderly people have their own preferences. But, is it true that many
films are a bad influence on young people? Pessimists argue that indeed, several movies have
a negative impact on teenagers. However, optimists contradict so. To annotate this schism of
opinions, a close analysis of the topic is prerequisite.

To begin with, some films showcasing violence indubitably have a bad influence on young
people. Since they are naive and immature, they are easily influenced by violent scenes and
languages. As a result, these youngsters can try to imitate the scenes they see on screen. To
exemplify, movies such as “Fast and Furious”, “War” and even children’s movies like
“Spiderman” and “Ninja Turtles” portray many killing and fighting scenes. Eventually, this
can encourage youngsters to behave like movie characters leading to cultural erosion and
even be engaged in fights. Hence, many films are indeed a bad influence on the youth.

Next, there are many films which deal with drugs. Often, the heroes themselves are seen
smoking, consuming alcohol and taking drugs in order to portray “cool” and “happening”
individuals. Consequently, in order to follow this trend of being superior, young people fall in
the vicious circle of social evils. The recent Bollywood movie “Kabir Singh” is a clear
depiction of how the main character falls in the drug trap. Moreover, films with sexual
content like “Fifty Shades of Grey” also negatively influence young people.

However, not all films negatively influence teenagers. There are other films which positively
impact them. Many producers, writers and directors have made films that have social and
moral purposes. These films reflect the reality of today and depict several issues like global
warming, corruption and poverty. When at an early age itself, youngsters watch such movies
notably “Avatar”, “Forest Gump” and “Mother India”, they will be aware of economic and
social issues. As a result, they can be more mature and can learn thanks to the underlying
messages these movies carry. Therefore, such films mightily positively influence young
people.

To conclude, it can be stated that there are different types of films. Some have a bad
influence whereas others have a good influence on young people. It is therefore vital to
carefully select and adopt a responsible attitude while watching films.
