Read the passages about Arlo and Brent and answer the questions. For each question
choose either A(Arlo) or B(Brent). You need to choose each person more than once.

My name is Arlo and I’m 17 years old. I’m a student and I live
with my family and dog by a sandy beach. I usually walk with
my dog on the beach in the evenings. In the summer I swim in

r
the sea most days. I really enjoy it. I am having sailing lessons

pe
too. Next summer I’m going to sail around the Greek islands.
I’ve never been to another country before.

Pa
Arlo (A)

My name is Brent. I’m 32 years old and I live in a big city. I

e
work as a dentist but I also like singing. I won first prize in a

pl
competition last week. I have played the guitar for years and
want to play the flute. I enjoy travelling and I often go on

holiday to other countries, especially the mountain areas. Next

Read the passage and answer all the questions.

Chocolate
Chocolate comes from cocoa beans. One cocoa tree produces about one hundred pods
a year and each pod has about forty beans in it. This is enough for eight bars of milk
chocolate or four bars of dark chocolate.

r
pe
About 37% of the world’s cocoa comes from The Ivory Coast. That is more than any

Pa
other country. The country which comes second is Ghana and Indonesia comes next.

The first people to use cocoa were the Mayans in Central America. They used the

e
pl
beans to make a cold drink but they never ate them. Joseph Fry from England made
the first eating chocolate in 1848. He sold this new food in his shop in Bristol. Today,

m
the country where people eat the most chocolate is Switzerland but an American
made the world’s largest chocolate bar. Sa
Everyone knows about dark, milk and white chocolate. However, in 2004 a chef,
ns

Frederic Bau, discovered another, fourth chocolate. Bau was heating white chocolate
io

for a cake but he forgot about it. Ten hours later the chocolate was a different
at

colour. It tasted excellent but it took eight years to find the recipe to make it again.
Now you can buy the chocolate on the internet. It is called Dulcey.
