The internet of things relies on a comprehensive set of technologies such as

application programming interfaces (APIs) that connect devices to the internet.

Other Internet of Things technologies are the key tool for Big Data
management, they have their advantages and disadvantages.
As advantages we have:
 Greater efficiency, productivity and innovation in our business with a
generation of new ideas.
 The information is available to anyone in any part of the world.
 Data collection and device control.
 Better decision making. This is due to the large amount of data that we
can possess, so the decisions will be more suitable.

As disadvantages we have:
 The information is not encrypted, so we are not offered total security.
 The software is not totally secure and can be hacked and the purpose it
usually serves is not good.
 You have to know what information is reliable and what is really valuable.
What is the internet of things?
The internet of things refers to all the devices that are connected to the internet
whose objective is based on collecting and exchanging information. Not only
are smartphones, tablets, among others, but also everything that can be
connected to the Internet.
Its previous concept was machine to machine, since the devices were
considered somewhat expensive and the Internet was not in the phase that it is
today.
The difference between the two is that the M2M mechanism is through sensors
without human intervention and IoT apart from being able to be controlled by
machines, it can also be mediated by humans and combined with Artificial
Intelligence.

As advantages and benefits of IoT we can highlight:

Greater efficiency, productivity and innovation in our business with a generation of new
ideas.
The communication that it can offer us with the environment is essential for our
operation.
The information is available to anyone in any part of the world.
We can make comparisons from different points of view or opinion.
Continuous daily update.
Data collection and device control.
Saving time and as it is well said "time is money". The activities are now carried out by
machines, which is a significant saving.
Better decision making. This is due to the large amount of data that we can have, so
the decisions will be more suitable.
Speed in data analysis and ease of tracking.

Like all technologies or services, the IoT also has a series of disadvantages
such as:
The information is not encrypted, so we are not offered total security.
There may be a lack of compatibility since IoT is not standardized, because it is
not fully working
You have to know what information is reliable and what is really valuable.
The software is not totally secure and can be hacked and the purpose it usually
serves is not good.
