Fact Families: What are They?
Practicing Fact Families is a clever way to teach that certain numbers
and equations are related to each other. Once students become
familiar with the members of a fact family, it makes finding answers
to related addition and subtraction problems easy.
Tips:
A "Fact Family” is a collection of related addition and
subtraction facts made from the same numbers.
Example: 15, 8, 7
In addition, the largest number will be the sum of the other two.
8 + 7 = 15
7 + 8 = 15
In subtraction, reverse the process.
15 – 8 = 7
15 – 7 = 8
