Case Study:

1. Natalie the Retail Manager:

Q1. Critique the process went through her selection of enigma as an

employer. Do you think the selection of enigma was right for her? What
could she have done differently in her job search?

Answer:

I think Enigma’s approaches of recruitment of Natalie were right. Because

Enigma gave Natalie the opportunity to gather job experiences as a fresher
which will be so much helpful for her future career life because many of her
friends are still looking for a perfect job position. She was impressed to see
the proactive development program and corporate culture. Later Natalia’s
perception about the organization had changed that Enigma stress on
individual capability rather than team work. Again they treated the employees
as human capital. Though stress in work but she was successful to improve
the work environment of her department. After five years, Natalia confronted
with some rough decision. Dilemma is between career and personal life.

Q2. Do you think Enigma was right in the approaches it used to recruit
Natalia? Should an employer have a moral obligation to always use
realistic recruitment?

Answer:

- Yes, an employer should have a moral obligation to always use realistic

recruitment. An employer should balance between the applicant’s perspective
and organizational perspective here; in this case, Enigma has given a chance
to Natalie to become an assistant manager just as a fresher whereas Natalie’s
friends are still fighting for a suitable position for them. . He or she should
not be given any work full of extra stress and not useful for future career life
for which the applicants lose their will towards job life.

Q3. Do you believe that the survival of the fittest approach that Enigma
used in developing its manger was an appropriate strategy? Do you think
that Natalia should have been more forceful in trying to correct managerial
and cultural wrong that she observed?

Answer:

I believe that the ‘survival of the fittest’ approach that Enigma used was an
appropriate strategy in developing its managers, Survival of the fittest is a
way how employees will start to expose or utilize their personal skills.

This strategy will help employees to figure of their dormant skills. This
approach will find put the store’s best component personnel who will lead the
company. This way company can develop the employee who can manage the
store very well because he or she will be one who knows the organization ins
& outs very well. She then can make policy which will best fit to the store.
I think the staff’s confidence and encouragement of work would be retained
and this type of problems did not arise. Similarly Natalie did not need to face
lots of stresses which damaged her health severely at very early stage of her life.

Q4. Do you agree with Natalie decision to (stick it out for a while longer)
with Enigma after she had been on the job for a year? Should Natalie have
been more proactive in considering other employment options at this point
in her career?

Answer:

At very early age she became the assistant manager whereas there were many
employees who were elder in age and working period than Natalie and were
working under the supervision of her, what they could not accept and
disobeyed her. Beside this, the staff at Enigma store had a negative view of
management because of its abusive attitude towards them and the employees
have been treated as nothing more than human capital. Natalie has followed
the flexible way. She learned to implement changes and improvement in her
dept. in a quiet fashion. She has surpassed one year in Enigma. As a result,
Natalie who has only three months training and one year job experience in
Enigma will definitely face stark reality if she look for other option which
may not ensure her another job of assistant manager.

Q5. If you were in Natalie’s shoes after five year with Enigma, what career
and life choices would you be prepare to make? What are the key factors
that you would consider in making your choices?

Answer:

One is switching to Seattle for becoming a store manager defying family

concerns. And the other one is staying in the present job at Pennsylvania or
starting new housewares store by her. I am, now an assistant manager, would
like to stay in the present job and Pennsylvania, because I have respect and
concern for my family. But if not, then I would be happy with the current
position of assistant manager because I am still getting rewards in this position
for my performance- a salary increase, bonus and appreciations. Promotion will
not be a big deal.

Q6: If you were to write a continuation to this case, what would you predict
for Natalie for the future, say 10 or 15 years after her college graduation?
Would it be a happy or unhappy future?

Answer:

For future, as Natalie was facing the problems she didn’t gave up she stood up
and brought chain which was not possible so this shows us that Enigma thought
Natalie so much that this new increment was an reward for her and she deserved
it because she earned it and I think that if she want this job she will easily make
her husband comfortable by bringing him in and will easily handle the situation.
