I. Course Overview

With ever increasing competition, Total Quality Management gained more and more
prominence as more and more organizations started using it as a competitive edge.
Countries like Japan could transform their entire economy on just this principle and
western world caught up with this concept when Japanese products literally
invaded Western markets – be it automobiles or electronics or even capital goods.
The objective of the course is to introduce the main principles and philosophies-
including the similarities and differences –of Gurus of TQM. It also introduces some
tools and techniques required for quality improvement.

II. Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)

At the end of the course, the students would be able to:

1. Identify some of the basic concepts, philosophies and practices in Total Quality
Management.
2. Develop basic understanding of some of the widely used TQM tools and techniques
for quality improvement.
3. Analyze and solve problems using quality management methods.
