    The rubric evaluates problem solving ability across four criteria from excellent to poor: 1) Understanding - whether the problem and required math were comprehended; 2) Strategies, reasoning, and procedures - if an effective plan was used to arrive at the solution; 3) Communication - how well the steps, thinking, and answer are explained and supported; 4) Whether the solution and explanation demonstrate comprehension and are clearly conveyed.
