 Book Introduction:
o Today we are going to read Go, Dog. Go! By Dr. Seuss. What do you think this book is going to be
about? This book is about all types of dogs that can drive cars, play, and even do work! You might
even find a surprise at the end of the book, but we’ll have to read the book to find out what it is.
Before we begin to read let’s do a short picture walk.
 Difficult Words/Vocabulary
o Before we begin to read I’ll go to each of the words and ask the student what each of the beginning
sounds of the word is. For example, I will find the word “beginner” and have her point to it on the
page and have her sound out the beginning sound of the word and then ask her what letter it is.
 Where
 Beginner
 Intentional Teaching Point:
o Being able to read new words using pictures and context clues.

During Reading: (5-10 min.) Listen in to students while they whisper read. Reinforce the teaching point, help
with decoding, check for understanding and provide specific feedback.

-does the picture look like it matches the word?

-does that word look like it goes along with the picture?

After Reading: (5-7 min.)

-it is important to discuss what the student thought about the book and see if he/she has any questions.

 Return to Teaching Point

o Are there any words that you could not figure out so you had to use the pictures and other words
around it to figure out?

 Discussion Questions
o What words did you have trouble with?
o Were there any words that you used to decode by looking at the pictures or words that you are
familiar with?
o What did you think of the book? Was it silly, exciting, funny?
o Do you have a dog? What is your dog like? What color?

Writing Connection OR Extending the Meaning (5 min.):
o Tell me about your dog. Can you describe what your dog looks like and maybe how big or small he is?
Draw a picture of your dog and then label what your dog is doing (he could be running, playing with
another dog, or even just lying on the ground sleeping).
