Q1 A simply supported 610×229×125 UB of S275 steel has a span of 6m and laterally
braced along its length. A nominal uniformly distributed dead load of 60 kN/m
together with a nominal uniformly distributed imposed load of 70kN/m are loaded
on the beam. Check;

(a) the adequency of beam for moment and shear.

(10 marks)

(b) bearing resistance by assuming (ss + c) =100 mm.

(11 marks)

(c) the imposed load deflection for a serviceability limit of L/360.
