TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I personally know Md. Rifat Islam for about two years in my capacity as an Assistant Professor at the
Media Studies and Journalism Department, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) where Rifat
was an undergraduate student till Fall 2014. I had the opportunity to observe him closely when I
taught undergraduate courses "Introduction to Digital Culture" and "Propaganda, Persuasion and
Public Discourse". Also, I attended his internship presentation as a panel member. Besides, I worked
with him closely while I, along with some other students, made a short fiction. Rifat contributed as
the Director of Photography in that film. Rifat did his internship at Half Stop Down, one of the most
reputed audiovisual production house lead by one of the most prominent Ad-maker in Bangladesh
Mr. Amitabh Reza Chowdhury. And, unlike most other interns in Bangladesh Rifat was a "paid
intern".
My impression of Rifat from an academic perspective is that he is a very committed, focused and
gifted student. Rifat knows his goals well and has strong self-motivation towards achieving those
goals. He has a good CGPA (3.25 out of 4.00). Also, his skills in cinematography and postproduction
have been appreciated by many in and outside the university. We believe in helping our graduates
to be prepared for both local and global industry, hence, English is the medium of instruction at
ULAB.
I always found Rifat passionate about learning historical and contemporary issues related to society
and culture. He tries to understand various societal phenomena, especially the impacts of social
media, and tries to put in his knowledge gathered from these investigations into his creative works.
And, I believe, that passion has made him interested in pursuing a higher degree in Film and
Television from your highly reputed institution to fortify his academic knowledge and skills.
Rifat's ability to capture every nuance of the areas he studies is admirable. From our c.onversations
and the evaluation of his assignments, I found that he can dig dipper into his research cases logically
and coherently in a unique approach. Rifat has good command over academic writing. Also, he
possesses high level of presentation skills.
Rifat has always portrayed to me his strong character and values. I believe his energy and positive
attitude towards interpersonal relationships will help him achieve his goals in life. Alongside, I can
assert that he will not lag behind in the competitive field of research and professional ground.
I give my highest recommendation for Md. Rifat Islam. Please do not hesitate to contact me should
you require any further information regarding him.
I wish him all the success.
