What is Water Resource Engineering?

Water Resource Engineering is the study and

management equipment, facilities and
techniques that are used to manage and
preserve life’s most plentiful resource.

Why is water resource engineering

important?

It is important because it can develop new

systems or processes that can preserve
freshwater sources and find new ones.
QUESTION:

WHY SHOULD WE STUDY WATER RESOURCES?

OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW
Water covers 70% of our planet, and it is easy to think
that it will always be plentiful. However, freshwater—
the stuff we drink, bathe in, irrigate our farm fields
with—is incredibly rare. Only 3% of the world’s water is
fresh water, and two-thirds of that is tucked away in
frozen glaciers or otherwise unavailable for our use.

WATER SCARCITY IN THE WORLD

As a result, by 2050, 200MILLION people live under water stress. Inadequate

sanitation is also a problem for 2.4 billion people—they are exposed to
diseases, such as cholera and typhoid fever, and other water-borne illnesses.
Two million people, mostly children, die each year from diarrheal diseases
alone.

WHAT CAUSES WATER POLLUTION?

HOW DOES WATER POLLUTION AFFECT
WATER QUALITY?
USES OF WATER

The main problem caused by water

pollution is the effect it has on aquatic
life. Dead fish, birds, dolphins, and
many other animals often wind up on
beaches, killed by pollutants in their
habitat.

.
Water pollution truly harms biodiversity
and aquatic ecosystems. The toxic
chemicals can change the color
of water and increase the amount of
minerals - also known as
eutrophication - which has a
bad impact on life in water.
