Project Tense Adventure

Issue - Less than half of Y4 Alpha’s pupils are unable to
discern between different tenses. Most of them
will use present tense when giving remarks of
past events.
- Verb tenses in particular are confusing to them.
Pupils are easily confused about changes that
some of the verbs gone through.
Objectives - Improve pupils’ understanding of tenses, and how
time affects them
- Improve pupils’ usage of correct verb tenses
- Reinforce the knowledge of verbs that pupils have
while adding on new information on tenses that
pupils have
Target Group Year 4 Alpha
Targeted Outcome - Pupils are able to use the correct form of verbs
when writing sentences
- Pupils are able to use the correct past tense in
their daily conversation
Implementation & Replicability OBSERVATION OF ISSUE:
1. Teacher found out that most pupils of Y4 Alpha have
problem constructing tenses of other than present
tense
2. Problem can be seen prevalent in their usage of verbs
in sentence construction

Example:
past tense of go, they put goed
past tense of run, they put runned
past tense of drink, they put drinked

IMPLEMENTATION PROCEDURE:
1. Pupils are divided into groups.
2. Introduce the game and the characters.
3. Assign each character to each group.
4. Explain the rules and how to play the game.
5. Players will have to face some monsters and to defeat
the monsters, they will have to answer questions
correctly.
6. If correct, move to the next area, if wrong, players lose
their turn.
7. Groups that manage to answer questions correctly,
and manage to reach the end first will win.
8. Example of questions;
- easy questions (Ali go/went to school yesterday)
- medium (fill in the blanks questions)
- hard (identify if the sentence is correct)
- very hard (construct a sentence using a word
given in simple past tense)
- wrong answers will cost the group their turn, and
they will have to answer a different (easier)
question when their turn to answer comes
Remarks 1. The project will be integrated within a lesson
2. The lesson should comprise of the standard 5 parts;
set induction until concluding activity
3. The project will be conducted during the second stage
of the lesson
