WHAT IS CONVENIENCE
SAMPLING
1) Is a type of non-probability sampling that involves
the sample being drawn from that part of the
population that is close to hand.

2) Selecting a participant based on the researcher

availability

3) No other criteria to the sampling method except

that people be available and willing to participate
EXAMPLE :

•Survey the Researcher’s Best friends

•Students enrolled in the Researcher’s classes
•standing at a mall or a grocery store and asking
people to answer questions
•Instagram polls
•gaming company wants to know about their
games is doing in the market after its release and
they may choose to create an online survey on
Facebook to rate that game
Advantage & Disadvantage

DISADVANTAGE
ADVANTAGE: •Responses more likely from
higher in agreeableness
•Collect data quickly
• Responses only from people
•Easy to do research Who are easily available
•Low Cost •Cannot be generalized to the
•Readily Available target population because of
•Fewer rules to follow the potential bias of the
sampling technique
PURPOSIVE
SAMPLE
•NON-PROBABILITY SAMPLE THAT IS SELECTED
BASED ON CHARACTERISTICS OF A POPULATION
AND THE OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY.

•ALSO KNOWN AS JUDGEMENTAL SAMPLING.

•SELECTING SAMPLE BASED ON THEIR OWN

JUDGEMENT TO OBTAIN THE OBJECTIVE OF THE
RESEARCH.
•HOW IS PURPOSIVE
SAMPLING CONDUCTED ?

The method for performing purposive sampling is fairly

straightforward. All a researcher must do is reject the
individuals who do not fit a particular profile when
creating the sample.
EXAMPLE
•Collect a sample of bookworm from
the Book Festival
• Only choose students who have
good marks and reject student who
have low mark
•The researcher only took responses
from form 4 student’s who took
physics subjects
•The sample selected was students
who had ever taken physic tuition only
Advantage & Disadvantage

ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES:
•Directly Approachable •Biased
Respondents •Not reliable
•Easy to conduct •Inability to generalize
•Facilitates the purpose of research findings
study
•Vulnerability to errors in
•Consumes minimum time
judgment by researcher
for execution
