ESTIMATING THE MEAN OF GROUPED DATA
When data is grouped in class intervals, the actual data values are not known. It is
therefore impossible to calculate the exact mean of the data. However, we can
estimate the mean by assuming that each score in an interval takes the value of the
interval’s midpoint.
This grouped frequency table below shows the scores of 60 students gained in an
entrance test. Estimate the mean score of the test.
