Reaction paper on Kundiman at Iba pa

Last Tuesday, we were required to watch “Kundiman at Iba pa” on Sillimancac.com.

Kundiman is the traditional way of serenading in the Philippines. In this show, talents of men
and women were showcased to us. Liwanag ng Buwan by Lee Alnertino Aniga, Kahit saan by
Jose corzaon de jesus, Bituing marikit by Nicanor Abelardo, Dahil sayo by mike velarde,
Pakiusap by Francisco Santiago, Lahat ng araw by mike velarde, rena dedal and maria elcon
kleine koerkamp, Kundiman ng luha by Nicanor Abelardo, Lagi kitang naaalala by Leopoldo
silos, Nahan by ernani cuenco, Amorosa by Nicanor Abelardo, Maya medley by Jose Estella,
Kundiman ng langit by augusto espino, Walang paalam by Michael Dadap – these are the songs
that were sang and performed in the show. Each of them contained different meanings and
unique impressions. As I was watching each of their performance, I noticed that their facial
expressions were intact and relatable to the lyrics of their song. It was sang with feelings and
they have put their hearts and souls in to their music. Although this pandemic has inhibited
various performances, roleplays and concerts, Silliman University Culture and Arts Council did
not fail to provide a platform for us to appreciate our own culture and be grateful for traditional
music. Also, the theme of these songs was mostly about love, romance, and purity. I guess that in
this type of suffering and crisis, we needed time for ourselves to feel loved and be appreciated.
All in all, all the performances were superb, and it was undoubtedly music to our ears.
