1. What were the reasons behind the trial and death of Andres Bonifacio ? Knowing and
understanding this particular event , what are your thoughts about Bonifacio and
Aguinaldo as heroes ?

The reasons behind the trial and death of Andres Bonifacio can be traced back
when he was invited by the Magdiwang Councils in Cavite. There, his leadership,
education, and livelihood were criticized by some of Magdalo members. They preferred
Emilio Aguinaldo more when it comes to leadership that’s why many of them put an
assembly in Tejeros, Cavite and installed Aguinaldo as president. But Bonifacio
invalidated this and established a separate government. Because of these and some
allegations of Bonifacio burning down a village and ordering the burning of a church in
Indang, he was found guilty of treason and sedition. Aguinaldo then, sent a group to
arrest Bonifacio that resulted into violent acts against the Bonifacios. Because of their
lawyer stating their guilt rather than defending them, Bonifacio and Procopio was
convicted and sentenced to death.

It actually made me doubt if Aguinaldo is a hero or a traitor because there were

also some allegations of him connected with Luna’s death. Also, In one of his letter in
1948, he admitted he had Bonifacio killed because two people told him, 'kung gusto
mong mabuhay pa tayo at mapanatili ang kapanatagan ng pamahalaang
mapaghimagsik ay dapat mapatupad mo ang utos ng Konseho de Giyera’. A heroic
deed for me is the act of selflessness and doing this without stepping into the lives of
innocents. This is my standard of what a true hero is and definitely Aguinaldo didn’t meet
it.

2. What is the historical significance of knowing and understanding the trial and death of
Bonifacio ?

Knowing and understanding what really happen at that time is really a very
important thing for us Filipino since there were lots of information when we were young
that made us believe false stories and idolize people that doesn’t much really deserved
it. It also introduces us into injustices happening before that up until now is happening in
our country. It also made us appreciate more of our heroes with their sacrifices and all
that I believe can open the heart and mind of the current generation to be a hero of their
time and step up for what they know is right and just. Power and authority can last but
the dignity, integrity and our good relationship to people will still remain and celebrated
even after a century of our death. That’s why no matter what field we are on in our life,
whether you’re a president, a teacher, or a simple mother or son, we must always
choose wisely what last and don’t focus much on our desires for supremacy.

3. In which other historical or contemporary events in the Philippines you can correlate /
compare this particular event ? Explain your answer.

I don’t have that much specific event on my mind, but what I think can be
correlate in this particular event is the dirty and bloody system of politics we have here in
the Philippines. Specially when the election period came, there were lots of never before
seen accusations coming against the leading candidate just to put him/her down. This
move obviously was framed from the opposing sides who desperately also want the
position and take the major lead in the administration. There were also times that it led to
killings or deaths to definitely assure the victory. This for me is almost just the same on
what happen in Bonifacio, that even they were doing it for the sake of many specially
their supporters and allies, the method or the way of achieving the position is so immoral
and not well-deserved.
