Using Perfume Excessively is influencing the Climate!

Nowadays, climate change is drastically increasing! If you buy an ice cream and it

has melted in less than 5 minutes, you cannot blame the seller or even the ingredients of the

ice cream. It shows us that climate change is real. Climate change happens because of some

reasons and one of them is using chemical substances in daily activity, such as overusing

perfume or disinfectant which contains aerosol. Aerosol is a substance enclosed under

pressure and able to be released as the gas emitted. It can influences climate change by

scattering and absorbing sunlight back into the space. And it modifies the size of clouds

particles, therefore changing how the clouds reflect and absorb sunlight. (NASA TV, 1996).

Overusing aerosol based product is just a little thing that human do but create a big effect for

the environment and the human itself; there are extreme alteration of the temperature,

irregular change of weather, and human health.

If you have ever felt and gave the attention to each days, and found out that the

temperature was extremely different. One day it felt so cold even though the sun was shining

bright, then the day after it was very hot till your skin burned. That is one of many proof of

the temperature alteration that extremely happened. How about the ice in Atlantic? It

certainly melted over time! According to the core samples, tide gauge readings, and most

recently, satellite measurements that over the past century the Global Mean Sea Level

(GMSL) has risen by 4 to 8 inches. Whereas the annual rate of sea level rise has been 0.13

inches a year. It means that roughly twice the average speed of the outstripping 80 years. And

it is caused by the melting glaciers and polar ice caps that are not naturally happened. The

formation cycle is supposed to be like, the ice naturally melted in summer and in the winter it
snows from evaporated seawater. Therefore it balances between melting and snowing. But,

the higher temperatures caused by global warming- that using of aerosol based product is one

of the causes, has broken the cycle. (National Geographic, 2017). So, thing that will

happened next if the sea level was rising uncontrollably is the drowning of the island

especially for the islet-small island.

Irregular change of weather is an effect that directly felt and affect to people’s

activity. Feels cold in the shiny day and feels so hot in the night. Or we can take another

appropriate example in daily life in Indonesia like, in dry season the rains come all of the

sudden. Just imagine that on your way to the office, college or school, you didn’t bring your

umbrella or raincoat because you thought it was dry season but the rains suddenly come.

Your outfit, books, bag and all things that you bring will get wet. You spend your time just to

shelter and in the end you come late. That was so annoying. Otherwise, it supposed to be rain

but there is a long drought. Because of the climate change we cannot predict the weather and

inflict big disadvantages, particularly in agriculture sector that the crops are failed because of

floods or droughts. And it related to the food and water supplies for people.

The effect that directly linked with human by the climate and weather is health. In

the short term of extreme temperature is causing heat stress (hyperthermia) or extreme cold

(hypothermia), even it lead to the death which caused by the heart or respiratory diseases.

According to the World Health Organization that recent studies suggest that the record of

high temperature in Western Europe in the summer of 2003 were associated with a spike of

an estimated 70,000 more deaths than the equivalent periods in previous years. (WHO, 2012).

The conditions of climate change also affect disease that transmitted over the water and via

vectors like mosquitoes. Diarrhoea, malaria and malnutrition as well have caused more than 3

million deaths globally in 2004. (WHO, 2012). In Bahasa we also known as ‘Pancaroba’ that
often attack people with weak immune system. Pancaroba usually attack in the transition of

weather. Although it is not a serious disease, but it is not means that it is not a big deal.

Climate change happened because of simple things that human do such as overusing

the aerosol based product like perfume and disinfectant. And cause some effects that are

extreme alteration of temperature on the earth’s surface which makes the ice in the Atlantic

melted and cause the sea level risen up; irregularly change of weather that affect to the

people’s activity and agriculture sector so that the food and water supplies have bad quality;

and human health that influenced by the climate change which leads to the deaths. Then,

from those things that caused by the climate changed we as a human being should increase

our self-awareness to decrease the using of chemical substance in daily activity. It’s okay to

use perfume or disinfectant but we have to know what is contained in. Start to use eco-

product and support to stop global warming by taking care of the environment.
