Activity 10.1 Reflecting on Learning from Chapter 10

During the course of your study of this text, we recommend that you keep a learning journal to track and

reflect on some or all of the following:

 Thoughts and reactions in response to the text

o Self-reflection is a very important part of learning

o I used to go to a project-based school and every project had a built-in reflection portion.

Through this process it became natural for me to reflect on my learning. Gallaudet also

emphasizes self-reflection and encourages us to reflect on our learning process often.

Reflection has helped me learn a lot about myself and continue to improve.

o My instructional decisions should be guided by student’s self-reflection. Students

reflections often show me what worked for them during instruction and what didn’t.

 What you are confused about and what you now understand that you didn’t before

o Self-reflection is one of the most important assessments

o As a teacher you should include at least one opportunity for students to reflection on their

learning through a unit or project.

 Questions you have now and answers to previous questions you have discovered

o Are there any project-based schools for deaf students?

o Are there any programs that teach self-reflection specifically for deaf students?

o What curriculum programs encourage self-reflection?

o Are there free games/programs/activities on technology?

 Barriers that may need to be overcome in order to implement what the text is teaching, along with

possible solutions

o I need to learn more self-reflection approaches that are appropriate for early childhood

students.

o I want to learn how to begin self-reflection, what initial skills do I teach?

 Implementation activities you have tried along with observations, questions, and possible

revisions to what you did

o I typically ask students to reflect on our learning multiple times through the lesson. I use

individual reflection less because my students are very young and also need a guide to

help them reflect on learning.

 Changes in student attitudes, behaviors, and achievement that you believe are attributable to what

you are implementing as a result of your study

o My belief in self-reflection is strengthened based on this chapter, m pat experiences in

school and use of self-reflection with my students.

 Your level of mastery of the chapter learning targets

o My mastery of this chapter is 9/10. I am very familiar with self-reflection and would like

more opportunities to practice self-reflection with my students.
