LEARNING MODULES IN MATH 4

UNIT 1: UNDERSTANDING WHOLE NUMBERS,

MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION CONCEPT

Do any of us realize the importance of math in our daily life? Math is needed at
every step of life, and we cannot live without it. It is a subject that is applied to every
field. It tells us how things work, and also allows us to predict certain things, which is
how we have progressed so much in life.

MODULE 1

WHOLE NUMBERS UP TO 100 000 AND PLACE VALUE (3 sessions)

I. Introduction:
This module will focus on whole numbers which are any of the numbers 0, 1, 2,
3, and so on. We first need to have a thorough understanding of the number system we
use. We will cover topics regarding place value of a digit and whole number in
expanded form.

II. Standards
Content Standards:
The learner demonstrates understanding of whole numbers up to 100 000.

Performance Standards:
The learner is able to recognize and represent whole numbers up to 100 000 in
various forms and contexts.

Formation Standards:

The learner strives on becoming a successful and responsible learner.

III. Most Essential Learning Competencies

To do well in this module, you need to remember and do the following:

visualize numbers up to 100 000 with emphasis on numbers 10 001-100 000;and

give the place value and value of a digit in numbers up to 100 000.

IV. Essential Questions:

As you go through in this module, you will be able to answer the following questions:

How do I determine the best numerical representation (pictorial, symbolic,

objects) for a given situation?
How does finding the common characteristics among similar problems help me to
be a more efficient problem solver?
What kinds of experiences help develop number sense?

Enduring Understanding

Within and after accomplishing this module, you will have the following takeaways
that can be considered as your lifelong learning:

There are many ways to represent a number.

Number sense develops through experience.
Operations create relationships between numbers.
The relationships among the operations and their properties promote
computational fluency.

V. Specific Objectives:

In this module, you will learn the following:

recognize the value of a digit based on its location within a number,

read and write numbers in expanded form; and
create numbers by putting digits in places with specific values.
VI. Pre-assessment

Answer the following questions below. After answering, copy and paste this in a Word
File using a short bond paper then submit the Pre-Assessment Activity to your teacher
via designated drop points or in the messenger.

1. How many thousands are there in 9 000?

2. How many hundreds are there in 1 500?

3. What is the value of digit 8 in 9 875?

4. What is the expanded form of 635?

5. What is the standard form of 8 000 + 500 +1?
