This document provides instructions and problems for a physics problem set/laboratory exercise. Students are asked to show their work on long bond paper and submit photo or scanned copies of their answers. The problems include: (1) calculating the horizontal distance between two hot air balloons, (2) adding and subtracting vectors graphically, (3) calculating how many football fields a space shuttle travels in the blink of an eye, and (4) using given data to determine the distances to locate where a gun was fired based on the bullet's trajectory.

1 Answer the following problems and write your solution on a set of LONG BOND PAPERS with your name and section. Scan or take a photo of your answers and submit it by uploading the files.
1. The two hot-air balloons in the drawing are
48.2 and 61.0 m above the ground. A person in the left balloon observes that the right balloon is 13.3° above the horizontal. What is the horizontal distance x between the two balloons?
5. In the drawing, the weight of the block on the
table is 422 N and that of the hanging block is 185 N. Ignoring all frictional effects and assuming the pulley to be massless, find (a) the acceleration of the two blocks and (b) the tension in the cord.
2. Given the vectors 𝑃"⃑ and 𝑄 "⃑ shown on the grid,
sketch and calculate the magnitude of the ""⃑ = 𝑃"⃑ + 𝑄 vectors (a) 𝑀 "⃑ and (b) 𝐾 "⃑ = 2𝑃"⃑ − 𝑄 "⃑ . Use the tail-to-head method and express the magnitudes in centimeters with the aid of grid scale shown in the drawing.
3. The Space Shuttle travels at a speed of about
7.6x103 m/s. the blink of an astronaut’s eye lasts about 110 ms. How many football fields (length=91.4 m) does the Shuttle cover in the blink of an eye?
4. From the top of the building, a gun is fired.
The bullet leaves the gun at a speed of 340 m/s, parallel to the ground. As the drawing shows, the bullet puts a hole in a window of another building and hits the wall that faces the window. Using the data in the drawing, determine the distances D and H, which locate the point where the gun was fired. Assume that the bullet does not slow down as it passes through the window.
